Take everything apart and knock out the seal and bearings similar to removing bearing from the front wheel of an American car. The trick is, where do you find a replacement seal 50 mm ID X 100 mm OD X 13.5 mm wide.

BIG JOB!!!!
You have to completely remove the entire tub assembly to change this out.
This is the biggest and time consuming jobs to do on front load washers.
No easy way to do but to pull the entire unit apart.

Solution #2 is right on. I just completed this job and found that you have to replace the outer tub assembly (rear half has the bearings already pressed in place). You have to take most of the washer apart to get it out. It's a several hour job and it helps A LOT if you have two people.

SOURCE: The inner tub is out of balance and rubbing against the outer tub

The rear bearing is part of the back half of the outer tub. In some cases the basket will need replaced also if the shaft is scored. This is a big job. In most cases whirlpool will warranty the parts for 10 years but not the labor. Will need to check in your owners manual. Hope this helps

you better get at this soon, the lip-seal is gone from the outer tub and now water has penetrated the bearings behind this lip-seal,the longer you wait the harder it will be to remove these bearings and if its a plastic outer tub you can destroy this tub when removing the old bearings, the inner tub needs to be removed, the rear access needs to be open the motor pulley removed, the c-clip that secures the outer bearing needs removing then the inner tub can come out the front to access these bearings for replacement

Maytag washer MAV551EEWW top load with loose tub

If the tub seal lets go water will weep into the tub bearing. This will rust the basket shaft and normally wreck the tub bearing. Once the bearings starts to get worn enough it usually gets very noisy. The tub bearing is pressed onto the outer back half of the tub shell assembly. Normally need to replace the inner basket/shaft assembly  and the outer shell with the tub bearing.
Sometimes the inner basket support will crack, this can give an clicking or banging noise as well.

Pictures of this job...
A sure indication was the brown junk/gookus leaking out if the rear bearing area and the belt has spewed it around in the drum that the rear bearing and seal was bad...

The whole outer shell and basket come out to do this repair....what bad bearing and rusted shaft looked like...

I had to remove the back panel. Undo the pump hose & water level hose, remove the 2 shocks, remove the motor, undo the front boot from the outer panel and remove the 2 springs to lift the whole assembly out from the back to work on it.

Replace bearing

You can try a puller but typically it is recommended to replace the entire rear outer tub half (which comes with the bearings already pressed into it). You will also need the tub seal that goes between the front and rear tub halves. Hope this helps.

you have to pull entire tub assy out of mach, removing all hoses, motor, wiring shocks and springs.then you remove all the bolts going around the middle of front and rear tub.the bearings and seals are pressed into the rear tub and are not removable for separate replacement.rear tub and basket have to be replaced together and is quite expensive to buy these parts..good luck

To test for bearing failure, open the door, pull back the door seal then grab the plastic outer tub with one hand and the inner basket with the other hand. If you can lift on the basket and wiggle up and down, the tub bearing is bad.

The tub bearing is contained in the rear half of the outer tub. To replace the rear half of the outer tub requires total disassembly of the machine. The top, console, door seal, front panel, rear panel drain hose, pressure hose etc. all have to be removed. Then..the entire outer tub has to be removed and split apart. The basket will need to be removed and the rear half of the tub replaced,,,It is a very time consuming job, if you are mechanically inclined, you can do it, if not, consider a professional. Cost to repair by a professional will run around $450.00. Outer tub cost is around $300.00.

If you need further assistance, let me know
