Question about Poulan Garden

1 Answer

Poulan 42" 14.5 HP Hydrostatic transmission. I let the clutch out and it barely goes. I put the top of my foot under the petal and it goes fine. Did I loose a spring? And if so, Where do I get one and where does it go? Thank you!!

LT1050 hydrostatic drive slipping will travel but willnot pull hill 345 hrs on unit.what do i look for?

Try this. When you try to go up the hill put your left foot under the Clutch/brake pedal and lift up. Does it speed up at all?

If it does your engine to transmission belt probably needs to be replaced. The hours you have on the tractor are about right for this normal maintenance repair.

What kind of fluid goes in the hydrostatic drive ? The mower goes fine in forward and reverse when first started. As the mower heats up it has trouble pulling itself. After about an hour it will barely...

Hi Jeff,

Use hydrostatic fluid. Consult your owner's manual for information. Do not use hydraulic transmission fluid.
If you do not have your owner's manual, you can find one on www.managemylife.com Just go to that site, click on manuals and enter your make and model number.

Hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate a 4 thumbs up. Thanks,

Put a new top belt wont start we found a small soring but dont no where it goes went and started ok before belt went on . when turn key is like flat battery but had on charger not that help please

Hi

The belt goes on the top of the variable pulley and the transaxel pulley. There is a belt tentioner (flat Pulley) You need to remove the pulley and look on the bracket side closest to the clutch/break petal for a small hole for the spring. Put the spring hook in the hole through the top of the bracket, let it hang. Replace the pulley. Now remove the rear tire and rim on the left side of the mower. Clutch/ break is the left side. If you look where the tire use to be toward the front you will see the hole where the other end of the spring goes. The flat pulley goes toward the flat side of the belt.Pull the spring with a vice grip place the other hook in the hole.

Hope this helps

The mower will stall when I lift my foot off the brake.

If you have a gear transmission, you have some safety switches. One under the seat. One on the clutch -brake pedal. These switches work together to prevent accidental injury. One may have disconnected or a wire frayed. If one switch has failed it will shut the mower off.

MTD 42 inch hydrostatic drive lawnmower

1...first and foremost check the fluid level and top off with mobil 1 full synthetic 20w50 oil,
2...check the the engine pulley for wear
3...check idler arm spring tention.
inside yout transmission is a center pump section and swash plates and a set of 6-8 pistons , if dirt is allowed into the transmission it causes severe wear to these parts

my recomendation would be to dissasemble the transmission and inspect the pump center section and swash plates for wear....look for tiny scratches on the bearing surfaces, if it is worn then replace parts as needed. these worn parts will cause the transmission to "growl" or as you say "grind"

Hydrostatic drive is weak

Try pulling back on the left foot pedal. This manually adjusts the drive belt tension and is a sign that the engine pulley has worn to the point the belt looses traction. A local repairman told me this last week and mine works fine now although in the very near future I'll need to replace the pully. Good luck

Clutch pedal not returning to position

Under the dash look to see if there is a spring attached to the petal or maybe under the hood. Or you might have something getting in the was of the petal arm. Good Luck and PEACE
