Question about Sharp AL-1000 Copier

1 Answer

HP laserjet 2100 prints pages fine, but has "ghosting" and duplicating text and images several lines down from original text/image. Recently installed new HP toner cartridge and was working fine for about 150 pages... then this ghosting started. Tried the (2) "cleaning" processes described in manual. Problem did not go away. Do not have another cartridge to try to see if the cartridge is causing the problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sounds like a bad drum on the cartridge. Contact HP, and they will probably replace it free, or maybe help you to troubleshoot.

Hope this helps!!

Testimonial: "Odd thing. I turned the printer OFF last night and turned it back on today around noon. Since then, I have printed about 25 pages of text and graphics. All the pages printed perfectly... no ghosting. I have no idea how the printer "repaired itself", but it seems to have. I'm crossing my fingers that this problem will not return. Thanks anyway for your help. Ed"

if the patches are random, and not ghost images duplicating down the page, you may need to take out the toner and gently shake it - tilt it right 90 degrees, then left 90 degrees, etc a few times to redistribute the toner...
failing that, the toner could be almost empty.
otherwise, check and see if they are duplicating down the page.. ie the same image defect 3 or 4 times down the page, if so, it is probably one of the drums.. toner or fuser drum...

Hope this info helps.

HP LaserJet M5025 MFP scans too light. Under default job options, image adjustment, darkness set to 3. The printer was sent to us upside down. We recently installed a brand new cartridge. Any suggestions?

If you print the configuration pages from the administration>information menu and they look dark then you know that the printing system is working fine. If they are light as well, then it is possible that being shipped upside down resulted in some dirt getting into the laser scanner. The image original settings are kind of wonky, in that it is backwards to normal assumptions. Darkness refers to the actual orignal you are scanning, so in most cases if you have lighter origjnals then you need to set darkness lower. As well, check whether the image type is set for photo or text. Setting for text will result in darker scans.

Hi, my printer is printing a test page but it's not clear at the left side of my page.what could be the cause of this problem?it's hp laserjet 2100/m/tn

This may be one of several things.

When you rub your finger over the unclear parts, does the image come off and feel grainy.
If so your fuser unit is not fusing the image corectly.

Have you tried another drum unit in the machine, it may be that the problem is on the drum unit and that the image is not transferd corectly.

Ghost images of the same printing repeated down the page

Run a half test. While printing a few pages, open the cover, pull out the toner and look down at the paper. If you see the ghost images replace the toner. If you don't see the ghost images, replace the fuser.

The printer is printing duplicate text in other areas of page randomly

If the duplicate text is faded or a "ghost" image from higher up on the printed page then your fuser film is going bad. I would try a different toner cartridge first just to eliminate that as a possibility but it sounds like fuser film. You can get a new fusing unit or see if a printer/computer service company local can replace just the fuser film. It is about 50% cheaper to do just the film as the rest of the fusing unit is good.

HP LaserJet 1012 Printer prints ghost images

I ran the hp toolbox "cleaning" mode too and it did not help the problem at all. I still have a dark smear concentrated in the middle of the page, and ghost images repeated lighter all the way down the page.

HP LaserJet 2100tn prints ok but with 3 lines of strange characters over image

Is your transfer roller clean?
How does the drum look on the toner cart?
Is the fuser getting bad?

Would you consider this an old image that is ghosting?

Ghost images

Is it from the most recently printed page, or is it the same image avery time regardless of what you print? It sounds like your drum or roller (I'm not sure about the exqact term in english) might be the issue. Have you somehow managed to "force" a printing without paper in the printer?
