SCANNING UNIT OF MY PRINTER MULFUNCTIONS

The scanner unit of my Lexmark X3580 is making a continuous clicking sound so it is unable to scan and/or make copies.
I have noticed that, the toothed belt which moves on the gear to transport the scanning light is the one producing the noise at the extreme right where it comes into contact with the gear. Please help me resolve this problem.

Actually there is no latch or lock anywhere, besides, I've been using it without this problem until just yesterday when the problem started. Thanks however for your concern but this was not very helpful. I'll be glad if you can suggest something else.

Thanks Oloo for your suggested solutions the second time round but I don't seem to get it-I mean the information you provided. Please could you explain further for me.
I have detected that the four cables(Yellow, Brown, Orange and Black) which connect the Motor which controls the gear and belt to the circuitry board might be causing the problem. I therefore think that it is more of a hardware issue. Well but you are the technical man. I'm just offering more information. Please let me hear from you.

Well, It could be actually broken, in which case I would open it up and look for the offending part.
It may be as little a loose screw or as bad as a broken something.

Or, it could be the software trying to calibrate for use.
If certain parts are dirty the scanner won't properly initialize.
Clean the glass, the bulb and any mirrors.

Or, it could be toast.

    Hi again..

This is a modern MFC with a mixed reputation. It did not take long to discover some serious complaints about the Scanner drivers See the first review here at Amazon bu user S.Rega: http://tinyurl.com/neqr2b
So this could be getting into the "you get what you pay for" department.

A decent new scanner from a reliable manufacturer is usually more expensive than the whole Printer/Copier/Fax/Scanner Lexmark X3550.

So, If you can't fix it by jiggling the wire you mentioned or updating the Driver software, or cleaning the components, or getting it replaced under warranty --- then it is probably history except for the printing function. It can probably also fax documents from your PC.

See if there is a lock or latch somewhere ( usually on the rear ) holding the belt.
Some manufacturers have these to prevent damage during shipping.

My lexmark s605 does not work

If you tried to reinstall, then the problem is not coming from your computer but the unit itself. If it does not go through the motion of scanning, then it is a problem in the power to the motor which is most likely "fried."

Lexmark X4550 scanning unit chatters constantly after power up

The belt is slipping either because it is loose or because the lock is engaged.

Take care!

Use of Scanner

On this model there is a SCAN in black and white or color buttons but you need to have something on the glass to scan. Once it scans it prints!!!

Now lexmark software if installed comes with a program to scan with. you need to check under your prgrams folder under lexmark for the scanning software that was installed with the print driver.

If you open the lid and you do not see the white light chances are your scanner has and needs a bulb inside and at the point to install one of these you might want to concider a new printer.

Please be considerate and leave your feedback and comments and ratings before you leave, Thanks

Unit makes a clicking sound at end of the power-up sequence

Sounds like the scanning mirror might be locked - during shipping, the mirror is locked to prevent damage. Look around the back or the underside of the unit and look for a slider with a lock/unlock picture on it. Slide it to unlock and the mirror should be free to move.

6150 scans leave a line down the scanned image

There is probably a speck of dust on the scanning unit. You can unlatch the glass scanner table and, with the unit powered down and the cord unconnected, gently pull the scanning unit out (or you can start a scan and power down the unit when the scanning unit is in the middle of the table). Opening the scanner table will void your warranty!

Examine carefully the glass "window" of the scanner in the area corresponding to the dark line using an angled light and see if you can spot the dust. You can clean the window glass with a lint-free cloth dampened with alcohol. Do not press hard on the scanning unit since the mechanism is quite delicate. Afterwards, carefully replace and latch back the glass table.

If the dark line does not go away, you might have a faulty scanner, but that's unlikely.

I have a lexmark 6150 i just got a computer with windows vista, i loaded the drivers and the printer works but the scanner does not

The Windows Vista x64 drivers available on the Lexmark website do not contain the All-In-One Center. They are minimum drivers. Although the scan drivers are shipped with the web package, they cannot be used by the All-In-One Center since it is not included. Please use Windows Scanners and Cameras or Photo Gallery for Scanning.

Please follow the steps given below to perform the WIA scanning:

    1. Click on "Start," and "Windows photo gallery."

    2. Under "Windows photo gallery" click on "File" and " Import from camera and scanner."

    3. Select the "Lexmark X6150 printer" and click on the import button.

    4. To begin the scanning process, click "Scan Now."
