Instructions to replace starter on JD RX75 lawn mower engine

I am looking for detailed instructions to install the starter back onto the engine of my John Deere RX75 lawn mower. It was removed by another mechanic and rebuilt at an alternator/starter shop. The tag was lost, so I am not 100% sure that it is the correct starter.
Thanks for your help!

I should have been more specific. There is not enough clearance to slide the starter gear into contact with the flywheel gear. I have removed the 2 studs and wonder what to remove next? It seems like the starter is too long - the bottom hits the oil drain area of the housing before the top will slide in.
    thanks

The problem is not the spacing of the bolt holes - I can't even get the starter into position on the engine. Is there some easy way to remove the sheet metal shroud on the engine that covers the starter gear?
    thanks
    p.s. would a picture help - how do I upload a picture?

I believe you have the jdrx95 starter (it's a little longer)
measure the distance from bolthole to bolt hole on the starter and, the starter engine mount if they are not the same you have the wrong starter. if they are the same length and, width you have the right starter and, you will have to spin it into place.
do not forget you may need to shim the starter gear away from the engine flywheel to get proper clearance for the pinion starter gear to smoothly mesh with the flywheel.

When I try to start my 60" Ariens rider all I get is a loud clattering sound. I just replaced the battery 2 months ago. What's wrong with my mower?

Joel, Recheck battery to make sure it has good charge >12 v and all battery and starter wiring, plugs, connections are clean, tight and undamaged. If you remove spark plug and engine spins freely from the key, the engine compression release or valve clearance needs adjusted. It is probable the solenoid or starter is faulty, the starter Bendix/drive may be sticking. If you can, give the starter a couple sharp raps with a hammer or bar and then try to start.
Check the attached links, instruction and guides to help diagnose starting issue. Good luck

How do you change the drive belt on a john deere d110 riding lawn mower?

You can look at the manuel that came with the mower or if you did not get one, go to the JD mower web site and look up you model and download the needed documentation. If that is not possible contact the local JD mower dealer and get a copy of the mower deck docs and look at the instructions for belt replacement.

I am having difficulty getting the nut off to change the oil on my JD Rx75. Any suggestions or could you explain the procedure.

If your mower is a GX 75 it has a brass square nut on the back of the engine.
Use a open end wrench and turn a few turns and it will open a valve to drain the oil.You can unscrew it until it stops turning.Dont over do it.
Their is a hose that attach's to the valve so you can drain it to a bucket or drain pan.
So you are just turning a valve, if it doesn't drain look for dirt or stuff plugging the valve.

Change oil in riding lawn mower

look at the side of the engine down low. There should be a pipe plug screwed in that has a square head. Put a drain pan under the area and remove this plug and the oil will drain out. It's best if the engine is warm. You should get 1 1/2 quarts of oil out of it. Let it drain for about 5 minutes and then re-install the pipe plug. Add 1 1/2 quarts of 30W oil and then cut the grass !
