Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Hello, I have repeatedly tried installing software that has an ?auto-update? feature designed to connect to the publisher?s update server to ensure that the newest version of the program is running. Problem is, my security program keeps flagging it as a threat and I keep getting error message, ? An error occured while trying to rename a file in the destination directory: MoveFile failed; code 2. The system cannot find the file specified.? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Darryl

    Hi, Joe

    I appreciate your prompt response.
How would I go about setting the publisher's address as okay?
Sorry. I've never had to perform this task before.

    Thanks,

    Darryl

Suggest you go into your security program, and set the publishers web address as okay.

Sorry, I should have asked what Operating System you're using. May I assume Microsoft Windows? If so, what version? XP or Vista?

Norton? (Boy do I dislike Norton) Which Norton product? Norton 360? Also what version?

After much study, I have come to the conclusion that I must differ you to another expert. I thought I could use the knowledge I have on older versions, learn about the newer options, and give you an expert solution. I find I cannot.
I know it has to do with the Norton Protection Center, and changing a setting for that particular web address.
(Something along the lines of Allow or Disallow)

I thought it would be a question of changing internet security settings, in Windows XP.

I reinstalled windows xp and i go on to the internet explorer and it says the page cannot be displayed What can i do to fix it and i do not have internet

If NO Internet = NO Internet Service
You are perfect and I.E.8 is functioning properly.
Internet Browser ( I.E. 8.0 ) requires an active internet account and access to the internet. " Page Cannot Be Displayed " = no connection to the URL address in the address bar.

If you have active Internet Service =
Sounds like you have no connection to your router / modem
Confirm the following connections : LAN = network cable, or Telephone line, or Wireless network connection and password ?

Once connected to your Internet Service Provider
IF you're system is ( only ) " Auto-Updating " ?
Try this.. manually check for updates. When window opens, check for all types of updates ( default selection is " important ", "Recommended " etc )
Select the other ( optional ) choice. When the next window appears ...
on the left side default (1st choice ), Software (2nd choice ) Drivers / other (3rd choice) 2nd " Software " = contains "optional" network update drivers and software = after downloading and installing updates ... machine re-start will be required for completion ...
REPEAT PROCESS EACH OF THE THREE TYPES OF UPDATES
Windows would continually find additional auto updates after each optional installation ... additional optional updates will become available, as a result of auto updating adding more updates ...
( " Lather, Rinse Repeat " ) Repeat processes, until all updates ( auto, optional, drivers ) show "0" available.
The system will now be updated.
please excuse, if the exact word of the choice is not exact, XP has been replaced 3x over.
If you find this was helpful, please remark positively

Blue screen of death when using autotune evo

Obviously, this program is causing a conflict with whatever OS you are using. Try updating your OS and install new service packs, or, if that fails, upgrade your OS altogether.

Error accessing valid language directory

I got the invalid language error recently rescuing a copy of CADKEY 19 from an old WIndows 2k server for an engineer where I work.
I eventually was able to get rid of the error message by searching for the string CK19 in regedit and altering keys with invalid paths to them from the previous install.
CADKEY 19 seems to store a lot of static paths in the Windows registry, I had to update at least a dozen or so.
Using the Find Next feature with regedit made finding the keys and updating them purty easy.

System get stuck and give no resonse and completely hangs up and have to restart

Hello,

This may be caused by an external device or a update that installed improper drivers. Try the following,

-Remove any external devices you have connected to the computer like usb hard drives, headphones, speakers etc.
Does the problem go away?
-If this problem started right after you installed certain software, windows updates or drivers, I would recommend you uninstall them. You can view Window updates by going to Start > Control Panel > View Install Updates (under program and features section).
Alternatlively, you can use Windows 7 System Restore to restore the computer to a previous working state. Go to Start and type in the search box "system restore".

-If you have some technical inclination, you can view your Windows logs by going to Windows event viewer. You can open up event viewer by going to Start and typing in the search box, "event viewer"

Your computer could be overheating. Make sure the computer gets enough air circulation. You can monitor computer temperature using a program. A program called Speed Fan will do this. Click here for SpeedFan.

I hope this was informative. If you have any questions feel free to respond.

Regards,

Error message - The feature you are trying to use

Seems like you have a Server and client setup and the Roxio Software you are talking about is located on the server. So what you can do is give the software a path to the installation folder of this software. For example if you have the setup on desktop, give the path to the desktop and then to the setup.

>I downloaded the Roxio programme so i have not got a copy.

I am not sure I understand this. You downloaded the program but you don't have a copy?
