Thanks for the info parrotheadpc. I didn't put how many beeps there was because the beeps are so fast and loud, there must be 20-30 of them if not more and they go so fast I can't count exactly how many there are. It starts out beeping once, and than 3 times and than all the other 20-30 beeps. Than it will stop and than it starts beeping and just doesn't stop till I shut the computer off. I'm leaning towards the motherboard, what do you think?

If the beeps have a sequence they are indicative of what might be happening. Listen to the sequence and write them down and repost.

Usually when it beeps like that is rapid succession, it may be getting input from something like the keyboard. I'm starting to lean toward a mainboard failure of some kind. Try to remove the keyboard and cable and start the laptop again and see if it still beeps like that.

@hellepie

The HDD interface on this machine is a PATA so BIOS shows the correct interface as IDE 0. Upon loading up the recovery disc (I'm assuming it's a good condition genuine Acer recovery media), what it does is that it re-images the HDD to the default file system and automatically occupies the full partition of the HDD so if you have already re-partition it, the problem might lie right there. Try to do the following:

1. Erase all partition on the new HDD that you have purchased and format it with NTFS and try to load the Acer recovery discs again.
2. If that won't work, try to use a retail copy of Windows and check if it fully install Windows. If it does, try to create a duplicate copy of your Acer recovery discs, it might just be faulty and try again.

Good Luck.

if you have a new hard drive you will have to install the windows operating system from an external source such as a cd drive
go to bios --boot settings and change from 1st boot hard drive to 1st boot cd
install the win os and then you can install the rest
when finished go back to bios and -boot and change back to 1st boot hard drive

Do the following:

  1. Check in the BIOS to make sure that the HD is present in the system before proceeding..
  2. If not then power off the laptop and then carefully remove and replace the HD from and to its connector.
  3. Then secure it then reboot the laptop.
  4. Check the BIOS settings again to see if the HD is recognised.
  5. If you still can’t see the HD then obtain a USB to IDE / SATA adaptor cable from eBay or your local PC store and remove the HD from the laptop and lay it down on a flat horizontal surface and use the adapter to connect to the laptop’s HD and connect the USB to another PC. This will show if there are any issues with the HD itself and will allow you to format it if necessary.
  6. Then replace it back in the laptop and all should be well.
  7. If not then you can suspect that you have an HD controller issue which is a very costly repair in a laptop.

  1. If the laptop will boot or you have a bootable CD / DVD then change the boot sequence in BIOS to be CD/DVD then Hard Disk.
  2. Reboot the laptop.
  3. Once booted look at the Device Manager to see if there are any errors showing in the Storage Devices and the Hard Disk in particular.
  4. Then go to option 5 or use the bootable CD / DVD to reformat and rebuild the hard drive.
  5. If all the above fails then install a new Hard Drive, format it as required and reinstall the Operating System and applications.

Acer Aspire One has Hard drive Password frozen

There should not be a password set in the BIOS unless you set it up with one. You can clear the BIOS to BRAND NEW state. Acer can guide you through this if it is under warranty. If it is not, write back and I will help you do this.

IBM T20 hard disk won't start, no display, and beeping

it may be drive issue,:

- replace the hd and cmos battery,
- change boot device priority in BIOS
to 1st: cd/dvd
2nd: hd
3rd: floppy or network boot or usb-boot

- exit BIOS saving changes: yes
- reboot from windows cd-rom for testing the cd drive
- try booting from new hd (if bios recognizes it,
then install operation system

- if still the same prob, see a technician about this issue

Dvd/cd drive isnt recognized

Turn off the laptop completely. There is one screw on the bottom holding it in place. Take out the screw and then take out the drive from the laptop. Put it back into place and make sure it reseats snug into the slot. Press F10 to get into the BIOS and see if its recognized in there, if it is then you know that it was the drive not getting seated properly. If its still not getting recognized then try another knowng good working drive in there.

Also make sure you reset the defaults in the BIOS. if the new drive isnt seen in there then it could be a bad controller on the motherboard and if the machine is under warranty, get the motherboard replaced.

Setting new hard drive up on acer 5315 series

Hi,
If the Back Up Disk you mean the 2 Recovery Disks that you have burned from the eRecovery in Acer.

You have to enable D2D Recovery on the BIOS Setup, it's usually on the second page of the BIOS Setup on a Acer Aspire Laptop.

Please Rate, Thanks

Hard drive problem

I've been wrestling with tw IBM's with similar issues for the last three days, one of which wouldn't recognize the hard drive or the CD drive. I'm going to suggest flashing the bios, this worked on the ones I have. Here's a link to the bios download. I recommend that you use the one for creating a diskette. Try this and let me know.

Acer Aspire 5102WLMi,Mouse&Keyboard&USB is gone :( Hi, My Laptop had a problems with booting (didn't recognize the hard drive) but after many restarts it was booting pretty well; However sometimes when I am working on Windows XP the hard drive was acting like suddenly disconnected, it was resulting disk write errors or blue screen; It was not so bad,but sometimes it was happening. Later, after a Blue Screen, it booted but the keyboard and the trackpad was not working; The USB ports also weren't working since I've connected external USB keyboard and mouse but they did not respond either. After I noticed that the keyboard don't work at all since I can't enther the BIOS configuration; It continued to boot SOMETIMES but the keyboard worked only for few seconds that I've been able to enter the BIOS(also only SOMETIMES). Since my warranty is over, I gave it to a repair shop and they told me that the ATI chipset is gone and they don't have any to replace it; I find it on eBay and I hope it will arrive tomorrow. However I noticed another strange thing: if I hit the laptops case in certain place(right to the trackpad) the laptop power off;It also power off if it is rised up quickly enough. Because of my curiosity I disassembled the laptop to see if there is anything that could cause a such problem I noticed that the South Bridge chipset is heating enough to burn my hand in only 2-3 seconds and don't have anything to cool it; Could this be a symptome of a problem with the south bridge? If you have any ideas or suggestions on the problem please write;
