Question about Texas Instruments TI-85 Calculator

The calculator cannot do that natively. There may be a program that you can drop onto your calculator to do it though.

has a ton of stuff... I saw two programs that sounded like it would do what you wanted... but I don't have an 85 to test it on so sorry if they don't...

Ones I saw are "**alghelp.zip" and "****algef85.zip"**

Change the output display to MathIO. You may be able to display square roots only: so no cube roots, nor fourth...

Press the Shift/Mode key and set the Input/Output to MathIO.

This calculator can show the results in radical form if it involves square roots. The 4th root of 243 is 3 times the fourth root of 3, which unfortunately is beyond the calculator's capabilities to display in radical form. The capability of these calculators to handle irrational numbers in radical form is limited to square roots. Roots of index other than 2 are always displayed in their decimal representation.
