Hi,
unfortunately laptops are a lot more technical. as most of the components i.e graphics chip-sound chip et,c are built onto the motherboard. heres a couple of ideas. remove the battery then plug in the charger, this will determine a damaged battery cell. possibly shorting out. then i,d try to dharge the battery on a same/similar model laptop if possible. or borrow/buy a spare. some laptops have a seperate charging circuit board, attached to the motherboard. this may have a faulty component. if your competant with electronics. you may be able to download a service/repair manual. to enable the dissasembly of the laptop. if you deciide to go this far. i,d suggest looking for a small fuse, close to the power inlet socket. possibly marked F1. if this has blown, that will be your problem.

There are several issues that can cause the no power issue you have. You have started at the simplest and now we need to work our way into the machine. The first thing is to check the output voltage that these power supplies are giving to make sure they are within the voltage requirements of the laptop, next is juice getting to the ac jack and is that voltage still the same? If so, then I would check it at the out-going legs of the jack where it solders to the motherboard...jacks have been known to go bad as in cold solders etc. If the jack is attached to the motherboard via a cable, check the wiring, plug, possible chaffing, does the power plug fit firmly in the jack socket? If you have power all the way to that point, then the issue is terminal for the motherboard unless you take it to a professional shop for diagnose and repair. It will probably involve an integral part of the PSU handling capability of the motherboard.

If the battery shorted out the power cord won't work. Try checking the battery and the connection.

a power cord is a power cord, so unless they use different plug heads you should be fine. if you want to be safe, call your nephews parents, ask them to buy the cord, and pay them back

Bought a new power cord because I had to keep moving cord around to get battery to charge, move and would lose charge received new power cord and still have to move cord around to keep getting a charge...

First thing you need to do is STOP trying to wiggle the cord to make it work. You could damage the motherboard.

The power jack needs to be replaced. It's a pretty standard repair. You can try finding a local laptop tech from Craigslist or visit your local shop.

This type of repair usually runs 70-100 out the door (depending on where you live)

I don't recommend you trying to fix it yourself.

Computer will not stay powered on...power cord not keeping good connection.

Power cord could be bad. I bought a multi-pin power cord from Walmart for $100 (so it would work with any of my laptops).

If it isn't the power cord it could be in your boot up.

Nothing but multi colered lines verticly on the screen

Try this:
Turn it off.
Disconnect power cord and any other device attached to it.
Take battery out.
Without anything attached. Hold down the power button for 10-15 seconds.
Connect the power cord only.
Hold down F2 (while it's off)
Turn it on while holding down F2.
Let go of F2 when something comes out of the screen.
If multi colored lines still appears.
You have either defective LCD(screen) or video card.

Coputer wont charge even when pluged in

This is a commom problem.
Problem with power socket on the laptop, it may caused by a dry solder joint and needs to be resoldered or the power socket may be faulty and needs to be replaced. Either way to fix this, it requires the laptop to be dismantled to get at this power socket. Get a quote to repair, as it could cost a few dollars.
If it is a faulty cord/plug on the power adapter, this can be checked with a multi-meter. When you connect the multi-meter probes to the power plug the voltage should be steady and the reading should be slightly higher then the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the power adapter. If the voltages fluctuates as you wriggle the plug then you have a broken wire in the plug. Replacing the plug would not cost much.

Its seems any one of the key of your got stuck. So please check out your keyboard first.

If problem still not fixed then, try to re-install your RAM: remove the RAM clean its connection point to the board, and placed it agin gently. then try to re-boot.

Please let me know your feed back.
