Question about Minn Kota Edge 40 Freshwater Bow Mount Trolling Motor
Had problems in the past stopping then it guit working while it was running change receptacles male and female. have power all the way to foot pedle still does not work checked all battery connections inspected wirinig for damage all looks good please help.

Sounds like a bad connection somewhere. I would take it to a authorized dealer for repair if it's still under warranty. Can get a bit tricky to repair yourself unless you're comfortable with soldering.

Here's a schematic for your motor:
My guess is you are correct in it being the brushes.
More times than not the motor will have leaked from in behind the prop are. What happens is a peice of monofilament line floating around in the water gets caught behind the prop and cuts the seals up, allowing water intrusion.
To remedy you'll need to clean up the entire bottom motor and replace the brushes, bearing and seal kit too. Clean up the commutator (copper area, now probably black in color, where the brushes ride on) with fine emory paper and you should be good to go!
