Re: How do I change the belt on my vacuum
Turn the carpet head upside down and look for visible screws at the front edge of the bottom plate. Inspect for others further back .Once removed the plate should hinge forward and separate from the base. Clean burned rubber from motor shaft and spin brush roll when replacing belt to check for wobble or hair and fibre wound in to ends of brush.

Hello! Your belt will need to be replaced about twice a year. If your belt is breaking within a couple uses of you changing it, you may not have the correct belt for your vacuum. Double check the owner's manual or Hoover.com to verify the belt number for your vacuum. Always replace the belt with a genuine Hoover belt. Hope this helped!
Hello, It sounds like your vacuums belt is stretched and worn. You'll need to replace it. Below is a link to a website that gives instructions with pictures on how to change the belt. You should be able to get a replacement belt at any department store or vacuum retailer. I hope this helps you.
Generic problem for all Vacuums How to change the belt How to change the belt on a Hoover High Performance upright vacuum cleaner I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Most of the Hoover upright vacuums service from the bottom and to start remove the bottom plate, that should expose the belt – if this is the case, some Hoover’s might be self propelled, if not the self-propelled vacs have 2 belts and the non self propelled models have one belt – so remove the belt(s) and then lift up on the brushroll and slide the belt onto the belt pulley then take a screwdriver tool with a hook on the end and stretch the belt onto the motor shaft – once this has been done the track the belt(s) and it should straighten out and run straight, re-install the bottom plate, plug in and test. If you cannot get @ the belt from the bottom the look for 2 or 3 screws – remove the screws and the top cover will lift off and then follow the procedure mentioned above… Questions? Please feel free to contact your local vacuum dealer in your area or in the yellow pages or contact the Hoover factory for more details. http://www.hoover.comTelephone Contact our Customer Service Department at 1.330.499.9499 Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. EST
