HOW DO U FIX A FLYWHEEL KEY ON A BRIGGS AND STRATTON LAWN MOWER
You must remove the starter cover. Remove the metal shroud that includes the fuel tank. Tou will see the flywheel (it has a number of curved fins on the edge.)Remove the nut holding the flywheel and find one of the same thread size. Use the one you found and thread it on just a few turns. Take the edge of the flywheel in one hand and tap on the nut with the other using a hammer. You may have to rap sharply. Once the flywheel comes loose, pick it off of the engine and you will see the keyway on the top of the shaft. The key connects the flywheel to the shaft and will break if you hit something very strong. If you change the key and it starts running correctly and you had hit something prior to the break, CHECK THE BLADE...Good luck...Lee
Its between the crank and the flywheel on top side of engine, they sheer if you hit something. its a cheap easy fix if engine hasnt been damaged
