17 hp kubota burns out right side spark plug in in an hour, not filed just dead will not work on the other side if switched after burned out. What can cause that?

Hi Robert:
Sounds like you've some trouble shooting to do. Try starting by installing new spark plugs in all cylinders. Find a project and run the machine for an hour or so. Let it cool off, then pull the spark plugs. Keep track of which one is from each cylinder. There are some excellent charts available that show what is going on in an engine from the appearance of the plug. OILY & Fouled is usually bad rings, SOOTY black can be too rich a mixture, Too lean can make the tip look almost melted. Enjoy the chase!

I have a Kubota zg23 that will run great for ten minutes then stall. It will start back up and the cycle continues.

Try checking the gas filler cap to make sure the vent hole hasn't got clogged. When it is clogged a vacuum will develop in the tank as it runs. When the vacuum is greater than the pressure from the fuel pump the engine will stop from fuel starvation.

Need do know the spark plugs gap

If you're replacing the spark plugs in your car engine, you'll need to set the gap before reseating the spark plug. The gap is the distance electricity arcs between the ground electrode and center electrode. The gap must be set correctly to ensure maximum performance. Here's how to set the gap of a spark plug.

  1. Remove the spark plug wires. Use a socket wrench to remove the spark plugs from their chambers.
  2. Clean the spark plug if you are not replacing it with a new one. Remove all dirt and debris from the spark plug.
  3. Check the owner's manual for your car (or any appliance with spark plugs) to find out the recommended gap setting.
  4. Use a gap tool to check the gap of the spark plug. Slip the tool between the ground electrode and center electrode. The gap tool should fit snugly at the recommended gap width indicated on the tool.
  5. Push the tool between the electrodes a few times to ensure proper gap. If the gap is too wide, push the ground electrode firmly against a flat surface to narrow the gap and then check again with the gap tool.
  6. Repeat Step 5 as necessary until you reach the correct gap. Reseat the spark plug and reattach the spark plug wires
Good Luck

Spark plug gap

Notice: This engine has aluminum cylinder heads. Do not remove the spark plugs from a hot engine, allow it to cool first. Removing the spark plugs from a hot engine may cause spark plug thread damage or cylinder head damage.
Gap the spark plug, using round wire type spark plug gap gage.

Gap Adjust the spark plug gap to 1.14 mm (0.045 in).

DO NOT coat the spark plugs with anti seize compound. Over torquing could occur and damage to the cylinder head threads may result.

If your going to use Platnum plugs, DO NOT GAP them. Just check the gap and if there not the right gap, ask for new one's with the right gap.

The metal on the PLatnum plugs, are harder and my break apart in the cylinder .

Good luck and hope this helps
