Question about Sony SVR-3000 TiVo

1 Answer

TIVO is stuck on start up on a sony svr-3000

I came home yesterday, and my screen showed the gray 'welcome, powering up' screen. it then went to the orange 'almost there. Just a few more minutes screen' but it then just flashes and returns to the gray welcome screen. this repeats as long as allowed. I already tried turning the system off and on, with the same result

It sounds like you need a new hard drive. I'd recommend you visit this TiVo repair website.

"Welcome. Powering-up " on screen and cannot turn it off manually or remotely

If you have a TiVo that is stuck on powering up, you likely have a bad hard drive. See this page for more information about a TiVo that is stuck on powering up.

Continuous reboot problem

Most likely, if your unit is not powering up to the TiVo Central screen, you have a hard drive problem. You might consider a replacement TiVo hard drive.

Sony SVR-2000 Tivo problem?

This sounds like it might be interference from some component outside the TiVo. I'd suggest you try connecting the TiVo, and only TiVo, to another TV in your house (if possible) to see if the problem goes away.

No sound

If you know that you do not have a cabling problem, then it sounds like a bad motherboard. If you have TiVo lifetime service, you should consider a flat-fee repair service such as the one here.

Welcome. powering up" screen freezes

well it sounds like the tivo is trying to re aquire the information needed or it was damaged during the power outage. If you can get into the menu settings make sure that you are getting a satellite signal on both tuners or both cables coming from the satellite. If you have the same tivo thats in the picture then you can go to directv central "the blue button at the top of the remote" then once you get there go to "read new messages and setup, then settings then satellite signal.once you go to the signal testing screen make sure you have a signal on both of the signal meter bars.If you dont one of the cables may have been damged.another way to test to see if the cables are ok is to take another receiver from another room and see if if will work on BOTH the cables that plugged into the tivo.If you discover that one or both cables are not working you can go to a website called satellitescoop.com and there is a section that will explain how to fix the cable/If you are unable to get to the setup screen then something internal may be wrong with the tivo. You will have to call Directv and have the tivo replaced with the new DVR,not tivo anymore.Or you can replace it yourself.Once again the website i mentioned will help ALOT.GOOD LUCK rate me fixya if this helps.OH yeah not dialing out will not cause any problems.Mine is the same way and it will just prompt you to make a phone call.

Sony SVR3000 Deleting everything a restarting the tivo box

Assuming this is a real TIVO and not an NDS DVR which are sometimes called "TIVO's". The delete everything and start over in effect reinitializes (or formats) the Hard Disk Drive. Since many problems can be attributed to software, this is making the assumption it IS a software issue. If the system kernel and/or associated utilities or the MFS file system are in some manner corrupted, they would give you this hang indication. The Drive would have to be reformatted and the kenel would have to be reinstalled. This is a tedious process that must be performed on a computer running the Linux OS since the TIVO OS is Linux based. There are several internet resources that have free software to download to perform this process. If you have no other TIVO drive to swap out to check that this is the issue, you could buy a new preformatted and loaded drive for your system. www.weaknees.com is a reliable source for TIVO replacement drives and are resonable. Hope this helps.

The Screen shows "welcome. Powering up....." and is stuck

Direct TV has been working on numerous software issues. Some patches have been downloaded for TiVo that in some cases have caused problems. In your case, it is more possibly an indication that the hard drive is not running and you have a possible hardware failure. When you rebooted and became stuck on the "welcome, powering up screen", it could be an indication of a software glitch or a hard drive failure. I would go with a hard drive failure. Since this is a Hughes Receiver like mine and you own it, you could try a drive swap with another TiVo drive out of a like receiver. If one is not available, you may have to purchase one. Pre-configured and initialized drives are available from www.weaknees.com. I have no interest in them, but that is where I buy Tivo pre-configured Hard Drives from. You can get replacement or upgrade Maxtor Drives preconfigured from them for this specific brand and model of TiVo DVR. A drive swap would be cheaper troubleshooting. There is also a possibility of a problem with the built-in IDE controller or the power supply on your receiver which can't be determined until you do swap out with a Known Good Drive to eliminate a hard drive problem. If you are able to swap it out and If the good drive works, then your old one has corrupted data and would need to be re-initialiaed and reloaded. If it is an older smaller (35 hour) drive, you would be better off with a new replacment since the loading is a somewhat lengthy process and must be done on a computer running the Linux Operating System.
