I have a Cuisanart food processor. I lock down the bowl and then hit on. The light comes on, but nothing happens. I have never gotten it to work. I don't have the manual, but what am I doing wrong?
In order for the processor to work, the bowl, lid AND pusher must all be in place - if one part is out of place, it will act dead. The proper assembly varies by model #. If you call Cuisinart at 1-800-726-0190, they are very good at getting you through the proper assembly.

You have to make sure that both the bowl and the cover are locked into place. Sometimes if you wiggle it a bit, it will go into the right spot. Make sure that the outlet you are using works.
make sure bowl and lid are on correctly. If not, it wont run. Both have safety switches where they lock
onto the unit. If latch tab is broken, you will need new bowl or lid. If still nothing, switch itself is bad
Remove the work bowl, blades, etc from off the base.
Plug the processor in and press the ON pedal down.
Use a pen to press in the rubber button on top of the base - you should hear a sound.
Now reassemble the bowl - lock the bowl in so that the handle faces front; insert blade of choice; place the tab under the feed tube of lid slightly left of center of the work bowl handle and slide the lid counter-clockwise until it clicks into place; insert pusher and make sure it locks into place.
You should be good to go again.
Make sure the tab on the lid is making contact with the "tower" in the back and that the work bowl is locked properly into place so that the plastic tabs show on each side toward the bottom of the work bowl.
The Kitchenaid food processors
have a few safety features implimented. If the unit is not assembled
properly, this may prevent the unit from turning on. I am thinking this
is an issue of assembly because the light is on, so the unit is
definitely getting power.
Proper assembly is below:
If it
isn't all ready, please disassemble the entire unit. This means
removing the blade and/or disc, blade, removing work bowl, work bowl
lid, and blade.
Start by placing the work bowl onto the motor
base. The work bowl handle should be facing at 9 o'clock, which is out
to your left. Rotate the handle downward until it locks in at the 6
o'clock position, which will lock over the center of the button panel.
Repeat
the process with the work bowl lid. The blade does not need to be
present for the motor to engage, if this is an assembly issue.
Put the work bowl, lid, and pusher on one piece at a time - handle of work bowl faces the front of the food processor, hollow feed tube faces the back, and the sliding lock switch on pusher sleeve faces the front. Should turn on.
If it doesn't, test the motor - remove the work bowl and other parts completely. Plug the base in and turn it on, and use a pen to push in the dark grey or black button on top of the base - if it spins, the motor is still good - you may just need a replacement part. If it doesn't make a sound, it needs to be sent in to Cuisinart for repair.
Remove the work bowl from the base of the food processor, and separate the bowl, lid, and pusher sleeve. Plug the base into the wall outlet, turn the food processor ON, and then use a pen to press in the dark grey or black button on top of the base of the food processor - if you hear some kind of noise, then your motor is still good. Put the work bowl on first, with the handle facing the front of the food processor. Put the lid on, with the lid lined up with the handle of the work bowl.
Put the pusher sleeve in the lid, with the metal piece facing the front of the processor.
Your processor should now turn on.
If it doesn't call Cuisinart and see if you are still in-warranty (3-year warranty).
I had the exact same problem. The red light came on when I hit the "On" button, but nothing happened. Then I noticed that when the lid is locked into place, a small pin in the handle goes into a small hole in the base. I took a wooden chopstick and poked it in this hole in the base, and the unit started running. I put the bowl and lid back on the unit and locked them into place, and this time the unit ran just fine. Yeah! I will remember this the next time my unit won't run even though I know that I've properly locked down the bowl and lid. Good luck!
