When I am finished using the sweeper I wind the cord back onto the handle and put the sweeper in the closet with the handle upright UNTIL I LET GO OF IT. THEN IT FALLS TOWARDS ME. It used to stay upright when I uprighted it and let go. But now it falls. thus: the handle won't stay upright" It is a GENERATION 3 KIRBY.
    Thankyou,

wasn't a hoover, it was a Kirby. Im not looking for memberships. I already paid an arm and a leg for the Kirby. Now I am looking for a little service from Kirby.

I figured, it was too much to expect.

G3 has a handle return spring. Check to see if it is properly tensioned or broken

Regarding my Kirby Generation 3 upright vacuum cleaner: the handle does not lock into place, but rather falls to the floor. Any thoughts on how to get it to stay in place? Also, I lost my owner/operator...

The plate that catches the handle to lock has a hidden spring behind that plate.I would leave it alone for the unit is pressed together. Used ones are found most everyday on Ebay. The owners manual maybe found on this website

How do I use shampooer?

Greetings,

If you click the link below it will take you to a video demonstration that explains step by step what you need to do to convert your Kirby into a carpet shampooer. The Vacuum in the video is the Kirby Sentria, but the procedure is the EXACT same as it is on your Kirby G3, as well as Kirby Diamond Edition, G4, G5, G6, etc. All Generation models have the same process of converting the vacuum into a carpet shampooer.

Kirby generation3 instructions,

Hi there!

If you are talking about the main sweeper attatchment, Lift the light at the front of the upright machine, Make sure the belt inside the sweeper it is over the hook when you turn the handle on the front anti-clockwise to "belt off". Turning handle raises belt.
The hooks at the bottom of sweeper go over the bar at the base of the body. It helps to lift the wheels slightly.
When hooked on, rotate handle clockwise to "belt on" and close the light cover.

Is this solves the problem , please take a moment to rate as Fixya! If you need more help, just ask again on this question.
Thank you.

Kirby generation 3 fan

You have to take off the top cover, then the handle pivot. Look down at the back of the armature you will see that it has a flat spot, you use a small vise grips or pliers to hold it, turn the belt pulley to the right if I remember right and turn the pulley off. If it won't come free, use a couple of flat blade screwdrivers and pry up to pop the fan off. Then put it all back together.
