Question about GE GSS20IEP Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

I have a GE REfridge that stopped running....

I have model GSS22WGPHCC, and I went on vacation and when I got home the digital display inside the fridge door was flashing both number settings, and completely stopped working. Is the compressor out of freon?? Or could this be a sensor problem?? Please advise....

Thanks for your help.

The compressor never runs out of freon - unless you have a leak somewhere, which is rare - and besides, your compressor motor would be still running but you would not get cooling - the most common problem associated with this is control board failure, so compressor does not start at all. Try unplugging the refrigerator for a few minutes and plug in again - see if this resets the control board - if problem persists or comes back you will need to call service and have them check the control board.

Before doing so, try unplugging and plugging back in after a few minutes, it might get things started again - if you have a manual knob for your cold control try setting the dial to off, then turn it back on all the way until you hear a "click" sound to confirm your thermostat is working properly - if you hear the clicking on the thermostat area, but compressor motor does not come on, call service.

Please let me know how it turned out - I can tell you that changing a compressor can be the most expensive repair on your fridge, and unless you have a shot compressor / burnout, it can be one of the more common problems like run capacitor / relay / control board - Before calling for service and spending money, try unplugging the fridge for few minutes set the cold control dial to maximum cold, and plug back in, if you hear your compressor come on or after a few minutes, then you control board was reset - lower the dial to your prefered setting and keep an ear on the compressor making sure it does cycle on and off and your temps are ok - you won't need service in this case - Keep a fridge thermometer in the freezer and monitor temps from time to tmie to avoid surprises - if the compressor fails to cycle on and problems resumes, get it serviced.

Freezer temps no warmer than 10F - normal temp 0F or colder (-18C) this allow quicker recovery in case of power outage. I have mine set at -10 F that is optimal for me - and if you have ice cream, -10F or colder.

Your refrigerator section should not be warmer than 40F - Optimal temps are 34F!

GE bottom freezer PF22missaww i came home from vacation and it was at 60 degrees , unplugged it for 10 minutes and plugged it back in , ran fine for a month , came home from work and the unit is warm again...

GE Profile bottom freezer erratic.

GE Profile Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator with Electronic controls with digital temperature readout (Should include Models PDS20MFS, PDS20SFS, PDS22MFS, PDS22SFS, PDS22MFS) May also apply to other models.

Diagnosis: Search of Internet yielded no definitive fix. It appeared to me that the some minor frost buildup might be symptomatic of unseen frost elsewhere. The electronic controls could possibly be messed up.

Fix: Not knowing whether it was frost or the electronic controls (or both), did the following:

1. Turned off the refrigerator. (It is not clear how to do that. Download the owner's manual for your model from the Internet. If it is like mine, the freezer and refrigerator APPEAR to have separate controls. In fact they are linked. To turn both freezer and refrigerator off, press the WARMER button on EITHER the refrigerator OR freezer until the display shows OFF for both the freezer and refrigerator.)

2. Unplugged the unit. Let it set for 18 hours with both doors open.

3. Plugged it in (which may have reset the electronic controls.)

4. Turned it on. To do so, I followed the instructions that said to press the COLDER button on either the refrigerator or freezer. Press the same COLDER button a second time and it should go to the factory presets of 0 degrees for the freezer and 37 degrees for the refrigerator.

5. Allowed the temperatures to stabilize for a week, after which temperature adjustments can be made.

How to program residential timer mod no 49750/tm261a

49750 sounds like a Woods timer number, but I can't identify for sure
Woods makes timers for many other brands that are sold under different numbers
http://waterheatertimer.org/Woods-timers-and-manuals.html

Amazon shows First Alert tm261 random vacation timer
http://www.amazon.com/First-Alert-Tm261-7-Day-Vacation/dp/B000P6W4OE
If this is not your timer, then add a comment.

First Alert tm261 random vacation timer is similar to GE 15151 shown on following page.
GE 15151 has a manual
First Alert appears just below GE 15151
http://waterheatertimer.org/GE-timers-and-manuals.html#vacation

A vacation timer cannot be programmed.
Look closely at outer edge of dial and see that dial has small plastic protrusions that stick out.
These protrusions are trippers that cause timer to turn lights on-off at random times so home looks occupied when on vacation.

GE Model tbx18mazarww refridge. Water coming from behind the temperature control panel. Defrost line is not clogged

Your defrost line coupling , is blocked from inside the freezer , to the defrost line behind the refrig . You will have to remove the inside rear freezer panel and icemaker if equiped , and defrost the drain hole in the center below the coils . Hot water will help .

Side by side gss22jf,fridge at 50 degrees

A quick stop at my local appliance store with some info for the tech.
and It was clear that the problem was in the evaporator(freezer)
section. turns out the defrost element($40.00) was the culprit.
It was so easy to change. Please be certain to unplug the refridge if you try this at home. This sure beats spending another $1,000.00 on a new
fridge. Good Luck

Kenmore refrigerator model 106 will not cool fridge or freezer

is your refridge leveled if not level it and stable. Try turn it off for a couples of hours and then put it back. does the refridge move a lot when u open it fix this refridge doesn't has to be moving when opening when on and moving this agitates the freon creates more pressure so it has a pressure switch and turns off the compressor to protect it from over or under pressure

My refridge is cool but not cold and my freezer is the same??

I've been replacing a lot of defrost heaters on these. is there frost inside back bottom of freezer? I've also had computer board problems that cause the freezer fan or the fan by compressor to not run...the coils next to compressor are very easy to get dirty and stop up and cause overheating also..check these and see if one of them is the problem :)

The GE Profile Advantium SCB2001KSS started beeping and displaying error code F3. I was able to set the time after holding one of the controls in for 3 seconds, but it reverted to the beeping and F3 error...

I know what you mean. I was cooking with this appliance tonight and suddenly it displayed an f-3 code. My advantium oven is less than 8 months old. Not sure how this happened or how to fix the problem. In order to sleep tonight (the constant beeping) I had to shut power off at the breaker pannel. Is this representative of the the type of quality that GE stands for???? I am sooo frustrated. I cook with my advantium oven all the time and love the dual abilities of this appliance. Like I said this is brand new and to have the f-3 code which apparently (from what I read) is a failed key pad. I am very dissapointed and am begining to think about pulling my stock from this company!

Controls not working in GE Bottom w/french doors.

I have the exact same problem with mine.  I was away for 3 months, left it running. Came back and no display.  Unplugged it & restarted it and it worked for a little while and went out again.

Did you ever get an answer?             I'm wondering about corrosion on the door switch from lack of use, as the display is only supposed to be on when a door is open.  Yours may have been a loose connector from moving it???
