Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines
On mine I pulled on the fabric softener plastic top.And under it was a cap. I pulled the cap off and looked inside to see a bolt (I think it was a 1/2" size. I needed a 1/2" socked and a 6" long extension and took the bolt completly loose. Righty tighty ,Lefty loosey. Then I just pulled up on big center plastic part and the dogs are under it. Only the bottom part of the agitator works the top does not move and the clothes dont circulate also there is a grinding sound

This is usually the agitator dogs have worn out or broke. These are very inexpensive and easy to replace. Here is a video this will walk you thru checking and replacing the agitator dogs . You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations of your specific model. Not all models are available. All parts come with installation instructions.
