Wouldn't this cause it to rust?

  • mbdevers Sep 05, 2009

You are a genius. I cleared the jam and all the stuck stuff is gone but the engine just whines and the rollie things with the blades don't turn. Any suggestions for that?

  • mbdevers Sep 06, 2009

Actually I already tried to turn the rollers by hand although not very hard. Maybe it would be worth while trying harder. Also, I did try to get the cover off. There was only one screw and I removed it and - - nothing! Any more suggestions?

    Thanks for all your help.

The drive section is next.Usually they are gear or chain driver.

You may have a broken ROLL PIN between the chain and cutter drive shaft. Try turning the motor by hand.

The hard part is getting the covers off !

Good luck and thanx for your comments.

How do you clear a paper jam

Hello,
Typically the best way to clear a paper jam in a paper shredder is to run it in reverse then forward repeating this as many times as necessary to remove the jam (sort of the same as rocking a car back & forward to get it out of a mud or snow rut). If that doesn't work then the only option is to take the shredder apart and clear it that way!
Good Luck!

How to clear a jam in a shedder?

Most shredders have a reverse feature to allow jam clearing. If the jam is so sever that neither forward or reverse will work, you will need to unplug the unit and manually clear the shredder blades.

Clear a serious jam

Do not put so much in at a time and it will not jam. You may have broken it.

Car whines when in reverse

You didn't say if it was an automatic or a manual transmission. If it is a manual, whine in reverse is normal because the reverse gear is straight cut. The forward gears are helical cut so they don't whine.

The shredder was paper jammed

Hi,

Ensure the wastebasket is empty then move power switch to the REVERSE position. This will reverse the jammed paper out of the shredder. If shredder jams again, alternate control switch slowly between REVERSE and AUTO (l) positions to attempt to move jammed paper completely through the shredder. If the shredder jams in reverse mode, move the switch to AUTO (l), depress the manual forward button located on the center of the shredder head and allow to run for five seconds. If jam does not clear, move switch to REVERSE again and allow to run for five seconds.

Repeat this process until jam is cleared. If necessary, turn off shredder and use care to grasp the paper and carefully pull out to clear jam. Once cleared, move switch to AUTO (l) to continue shredding. The jamming may be happening because the cutting cylinder needs to be oiled.

Follow instructions to oil your shredder;

To keep your shredder in top condition, the cutting blades need to be oiled every so often (for frequency, please refer to your owner's manual). We recommend using Powershred® Lubricant or a vegetable-based oil (such as corn or canola) in a non-aerosol container with an extension nozzle.

Caution: Never use flammable synthetic oil, petroleum-based, or aerosol lubricants to oil the cutting blades. Some agents may combust, causing serious injury. NEVER USE WD40.

1. Depress and hold the reverse button down.
2. Put the tip of the oil bottle in the paper entry and make one or two sweeps the length of the entry while squeezing the oil bottle.
3. Move the power switch to Auto (I) position, or depress the manual forward button (depending on model of shredder) and allow the blades to run at least three seconds.
4. Move the power switch to Reverse (R) position and allow it to run for at least three seconds.
5. Repeat steps three and four above at least three time.

Regards.

My son put a 25 page document in this shredder and bound her up better than any shredder jam I've EVER seen. What's the best way to clear this mess when the shredder can't overpower the jam? I'll pull...

There are various ways to clear the mess if you have patience and the time to work the jam. 1. Unplug the shredder and use a flat-head screw driver to dig as much out as you can, then plug it back in and flip the switch from forward to reverse a few times and then keep repeating the process until jam is cleared. 2. Use tweezers to remove paper from critical connection teeth and the try it again.

Stopped working while i was using it

Mine does that when it jams, or overheats. Try toggling the switch between forward and reverse to clear any jam. If that doesn't work, you can unplug the unit, turn it over, and remove jammed paper with needle nose pliers. If there is no jam, try letting it cool for a while and then try in the reverse position.

Do you have proper Trans Fluid level. When you never change the fluid every couple years you end up with these issues. Dirty valve body in trans, bad solenoid pack or internal damage.
