If its an external mouse that uses laser for pointer location rather than the internal ball, then you might need to purchase another one. they tend to do that. Mine still does it every once in a while, but goes away when i pick it up and set it back down. good luck

The touchpad is locked

On some models there is a button at the top of the touchpad in the middle that toggles the touchpad on or off.

On other models you simply tap twice in the upper left hand portion of the touchpad to toggle it on or off.

And then there are some models that you use keystrokes to toggle the touchpad. Normally you would Press and Hold the ALT or FN function key near the bottom left portion of the keyboard then hit the key that toggles the touchpad. The key that toggles the touchpad will have the icon of a finger pointing at a square which represents the touchpad.

Below is what I found in your user manual on the touchpad. It looks like your touchpad is controlled by software and there is no button or keystrokes that control the toggling.

Customizing the Touch Pad and Track Stick You can use the Mouse Properties window to disable the touch pad and track stick or adjust their settings.
  1. Open the Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Mouse.

  2. In the Mouse Properties window:

    • Click the Device Select tab to disable the touch pad and track stick.

    • Click the Pointer tab to adjust touch pad and track stick settings.

  3. Click OK to save the settings and close the window.
Below is a link to your manual

This has happened several times... so hopefully you can teach me what I am doing. I am in the middle of writing an email, my hand moves.... somewhere.... and the message is deleted. Sometimes it goes to...

What e-mail program are you using?
Try placing a piece of card or a thin book or similar item over the touch pad so it cannot be touched. Then try typing an e-mail. If the problem goes away then it is definately a problem with the touch pad. If the problem remains then there is some other problem, possibly the keyboard layout cause you to press the DELETE button by mistake.
If the touch pad is the problem then try setting the touch pad sensitivity to minimum. Plugging in a USB mouse DOES NOT disable the touch pad, so this will not help you if you accidentally brush the touch pad while typing.

This is usually caused from the touch pad just below the keyboard. The easiest fix is to turn the touch pad off when you are going to do a lot of typing.

Sometimes you can configure the sensitivity of the Mouse pad from Control Panel, Go there and look for applet MOUSE, if it is hardware issue, you can visit the website of the maker of your Laptop, and go for Support Page with Drivers, specifically issued for Mouse or Touch pad or In put. Most new Computer Systems now have Online Support which can detect the Problem of your Computer. Download the Detect Software... Once you upgraded the Drivers for the Board. let us say ASUS, the Bios will fix and update your Hardware. Just be careful sometimes, this is irreversible, meaning cannot uninstall the Drivers for BIOS, or on Board Software.

Dell 1545...... How do you disable the touch pad.

If you double click on the touch pad icon in the task bar it will bring up the Dell Touchpad Settings. Then click "Device Select / Button Settings". There should be two tabs there. Make sure "Device Select" is selected, and at the bottom of this tab, there should be a check box that says "Disable Touchpad/Pointing Stick when external USB mouse is present".

If you cannot find those settings, they may also be in the BIOS. Try pressing F2 while booting and look around in the BIOS for a similar option.

My Hp Laptop's touch pad is not reponding to touch. Please help me. The curser reponds but not the touch reponse. The touch pad reaponds to scrolling but not to finger tappings. The two right and left bars...

there is a key combination that enables/disables the touch pad. it's the Fn key + the function key that shows a little mouse icon in blue at the top of your keyboard. on Fujitsu this would be Fn+F6 for instance. if this doesn't work, it is possible that the touch pad has been turned off in the BIOS setup. you will have to enter the BIOS and enable or automate the "internal pointing device"

Acer aspire touchpad over sensitive

Your laptop should have software pre-installed for your touchpad. This should probably be in the Control Panel. Once you find the software there should be options to change the sensitivity. Hope I helped.

How can I stop my curser from jumping around whilst typing ?

Most probably because your 'Touch Pad Mouse' is touched by your palm (hand or something) while you are typing. Avoid contact with the mouse touch pad while typing.
Option 2:
If you have a centre moveable mouse on your laptop, start using it and disable the 'Touch pad mouse'
Best of luck!

Touch pad is not working

I had a similar problem which I remedied by removing and cleaning the touchpad, there was some dirt which had collected around the edges of the pad underneath the case. The only drawback is that the majority of the laptop must be disassembled to get to the touchpad.
