Dish Network - Loss of signal after smart card upgrade.
I have a Dish Network model 301 unit. After upgrading from the yellow card to the blue one last month, the unit constantly loses the signal and has to reaquire. I have two SW21 switches, connected to separate rooms, and have tried both. I have also tried my spare set of LNBF's. The System Info and Check Switch tests always pass. The signal meter shows an average of 75 on both satellites (110 & 119), but the signal suddenly vanishes (no fade) then reappears. Customer Service had me run the Check switch test again, then said "That ought to fix it", but it didn't.

Re: Dish Network - Loss of signal after smart card...
Hi I will be more than glad to assist you in this concern.. Since you did already all the troubleshooting to fix the problem and according to the customer service, just run the check switch and test, that should fix the problem, but it didnt. The blue card that your refering is the g3 smartcard, it started when u insert to the 301 receiver.. It could be a bad smartcard or the receiver is bad, If you have another solo receiver in the house, just to isolate the problem, try to hook up the other solo receiver in the room where the 301 receiver is hook, run a check switch and test to the other solo receiver, once its done check your sat and signal, once its ok, cancel all the way out and it should acquire the sat signal..it will show attention 015 and let it finish the progress until it download the programming guide.. once u got a picture and the problem still exist with a different receiver. the problem is with the receiver and the receiver needs to be replace, if you call on dish network tech support, tell them that you try using another receiver and install to the room were the 301 is located, so that they wont do a troubleshooting again.. that is.. if you have another receiver to test and isolate the problem, but if not request for a service call so that they will send tech to your house.. please feel free to get in touch.

Depending upon your receiver model, you can change the time the updates take place. Press your Menu button on the remote to bring up the Main Menu. Press 8 (Preferences) and 4 (Updates) for our duo receivers and newer solo receivers. You can arrow over to the Time Set to change the time the updates occur.
The older receivers, model 301, 311, 381, Legacy receivers, etc., doesn't give you the option to change the time of the download. I hope this helps.
Hey there, ihacharya! I saw your post and would like to offer you assistance.
You are going to need to upgrade your dish satellite to a newer model as the
LNBF on the one you have isn't capable of receiving HD signal. You can email me
your account number so that I can look into that for you. My email address is
Pull the smart card out of the unit and turn the unit off. then turn it back on and replace the card. this should reset the unit. It will take a minut or so for the unit to read the card and aquire a sat signal. If this does not work, simply call Dish network and they can walk you through any other options.
The solution is usually a simple one and that has been suggested already but I will ask you to try one thing first. Remove the new smartcard and do not put one in. If the receiver still displays a picture and yoou can get to menu 611 run a check switch. After this is performed cancel out of the screens and re insert the new smartcard. Once the system comes back up perform the same steps as you did before with the smart card removed. If this fails you can try the solution they offered which was to update the sofware. There is no reason your software should be outdated if you were using this receiver before the new smartcard but try anyway as it may SOMEHOW work. Using the remote turn the receiver itself off. Allow the receiver sometime to turn itself back on-this could take awhile so plan this when you leave for work or are going to be gone from the house for sometime so you do not get bored waiting for this to occur. If the receiver has not turned back on in 45 minutes or more then the receiver will either need replacing -which i suggest- or they will try to send you a new smartcard if you talk to Cust service. Tell them you want a service call to fix the receiver. While you have them on the phone verify your receiver number and the new smartcard number which is on the back of the card and ask them to send a hit to the receiver. If the receiver has not been associated with the new smartcard or if the smartcard was not loaded with all of your programmming this should fix the issue. Thanks for using Fix Ya.
There was not a software upgrade in the last month for the 510 according to Dish Network. With that being said the issue is more than likely a bad hard drive. If you have to replace the receiver ask about a non dvr model that supports an external hard drive. This will allow you to keep from paying the dvr fee every month and allow you to have better control of your recordings eg. more record time, saved recordings if receiver needs to be replaced etc. There is a 39.99 one time fee for Dish to enable this feature but it is well worth it in my opinion. You may also want to check out the line of Sling media they have available also if you are an avid TV fan.
you might have a grounding issue or electrical power. dish receivers need a specific amount of volts, what you can do is take an extension cord n connect it to the rcvr and take the other end of the extension cord n plug it in on another outlet in another ROOM, then see if it powers on , if it does something is wrong w/ the outlet even if u have A tv or other appliace plugged in, if it doesnt turn on then call dish network n get replacement receiver
