Question about LG 37LC7D 37 in. LCD HDTV

Open Question

37LC2D-UD No Pic, Sound or OSD Back-light lit Chassis LA51D Initially I was using HDMI input and the set started rebooting repeatedly giving the connecting message a few seconds of picture then another reboot.. I switched to RF in and it worked for 2 days then the following started.. After power up the back-light lights but No pic, No sound, No osd.. After 3 to 6 minutes the screen flashes white 4 or 5 times and from the back the back-light also flashes brighter than normal operating level,, Some clicking noises which seem to come from the ccfl boards not the power supply.. Then the tv plays perfectly with all functions working for 30 to 45 minutes.. While working there is no audio distortion and the picture is free of noise, hum-bars or any artifacts associated with a noisy power supply.. Then silently returns to non working state with the back-light still lit.. The TV must be powered off for a hour+,, Then the whole process can be repeated.. Tapping on components has no effect weather the set is working or not.. I installed a new main board 39119M0081A with latest firmware recommended by the LG Tech, That came to warranty my other LG tv that was still under warranty,, He said it had to be the main board because it lost sound and pic,, But he was wrong I still have the same problem.. I have checked the power supply for cold soldier joints, bloated caps, and overheated components,, None were found.. I have reseated all cables.. I checked the power supply voltage outputs and they seemed to be within range but I only poked one pin for each voltage.. I don't know if this is the way the protection circuits work cutting out the TV meaning anything that triggers protection produce the same symptoms or the symptoms are caused directly from a board failure.. I can't believe the LG Tech said definitely the main board and I spent $350 to have the same problem.. This has to be a chronic problem with these sets as so many online have a very similar problem..

I have found the problem .. I replaced all the output caps on the power supply module with Panasonic 105C FM caps although any low ESR caps will work, The TV now works perfectly.. I tested all the removed capacitors and all read close to the given value except one 680uf 16v capacitor that only showed 20uf on my meter.. These are all low ESR caps and I don't have a meter to test that so I replaced all outputs caps (6)1000uf, (2)680uf, (2)480uf (2)2200uf... It seems Samxon caps do not bulge or leak when they go bad so there were no visible signs of failure..

IF the backlights are on but you just get dim glowing on the screen when look at the screen in darkened room then the T-CON board is bad or it is not getting the 12vdc from the main logic board. Need to use logical troubleshooting before buying the wrong parts.

I have exactly the same problem with the same model tv. I am currently scouring the internet to try and find a solution to fix this problem. If you find one before I do, please share your findings and I will do the same. It has been suggested that it could be capacitor failures in the power supply unit. I have not looked at the psu yet to see if any capacitors are "bulging" I want to be sure before I start changing components.

How do you get HDMI out to tv, through a graphics card? Is Is it HDMI direct out of the card or DVI adaptor? I believe you will get a ping even if the volume is turned down and when playing a movie you would have volume control throuh the DVD player, the computer and the tv. Make sure your volume is turned up on dvd player and right click on your speaker icon in taskbar, at lower right of screen and make sure that volume is up. When you do the ping are you checking a "HD" audio driver. Look in 'device manager" in "sound audio and game controllers" and right click on "HD" devices and make sure they are enabled. Let me know what happens. When you look at devices in device manager you also may see a warning. If so click on the symbol, ? ,!, or triangle and follow proceedure.

Sharp aquos 45 inch tv power light blinking

I had a similar problem. I had a 52" RCArear projection tv. It would do this when I initially turned on the television, but then after a few "on/off, on/off, on/off" cycles it would stay on. Eventually it started doing it more; until finally there was a spark and that was it. The tv was dead. The bloggers called it "the blinking green light of death" (because of green light on the panel). The power board is going out.ALSO holding down the Input and Menu buttons afterward will give you some diagnostic information via 2 sets of blinking indicator lights.

You may very well have issues with capacitors on this set being that it is or very similar to the V26 chassis. Since I have spare test lamps laying around, I would normally try that first. If the lamp still would not stay lit, I would then suspect the electrical chassis (capacitors). When I suspect the chassis, I can usually verify it by pulling it out and partially disassemble it and find blown capacitors

The tv was working fine. Pressing the button to turn it on only turns it on briefly (sound but no picture) then it turns off. The standby/timer light blinks six times repeatedly.

I used to get OSD on the TV with my receiver, but it has gone and I don't know what setting to do to get it back. It is a Pioneer VSX-917V-s/-K. Thanks

did you happen to change to cable connecting the Reciever to the TV to an HDMI?

please note that the OSD will not appear if you have connected using the HDMI output to your TV.
Use component, S-video or composite connections for system setup.
