I have a similar problem with my Bushnell 18-1650!

As you can see below, the plastic thing that holds the lens snapped off from the telescope's diagonal, and is now lost along with the eyepieces. This is a childhood scope I'm trying to rescue!

Should I:
1) glue a new eyepiece straight onto the diagonal
2) buy a new diagonal AND eyepiece
Or do I need to just buy a new telescope?

Thanks in advance.

Other than dealing with the manufacturer parts, knowing the exact specifications of the main lens (the Objective), the lens could be bought from a company called like Jaeger's Optical out of New York, Edmund Scientific Company in New Jersey, and among others. The focal length and the aperature (usually in mm) is all that is needed to order the Anchromatic (color corrected) lens rerplacement. The "f" number is the relationship of the focal length divided by the aperature. It is considered the "speed" of the lens system. It will be exactly the same with the replacement. If there is a choice, the correction factor of the lens should be within 1/4 wave accuracy. This will perform well enough through the different eyepieces. Don't exceed 50-60x of magnification per inch of aperature when viewing.

Many retailers sell eyepieces, here are two. You must measure the hole. Some are .965 and other are 1.25 inch.

I need and objective lens for a Bushnell Harbormaster brass telescope

Unless you can make one I suggest you contact Bushnell to see if they will sell you one. If it is out of production then you will have to look for someone who can grind one for you which could be very expensive.

Never take an eyepiece apart -- first you will void tany warranty-- and second no one can tell you how the multi-elements go back together properly.

Buy a new eyepiece and throw that one away.

Just got a 78-8831 and set it up according to instructions. After inserting lens into eyepiece, I can't see anything at all. Dont worry, I've removed the front cap from the the main telescope.

Something leads to believe I'm either missing something real fundamental or my telescope is broken. Please help
