It could be the plug, but more likely the problem lies with a diry, gummed up carburator, a clogged fuel filter, or deteriored fuel lines or diaphragm. These are some places that I'd start. Sitting inactive for that long is hard on small engines. Grab some carburator cleaner and start cleaning and troubleshooting the fuel delivery system. Another little trick is to put a couple of drops of transmission fluid into the spark plug hole and slowly pull the pull cord, then let it set for awhile. This sometimes help free up stubborn trimmers that have been stored for long periods. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Won't start. I don't think the spark plug is firing. What should the gap be?

i dont think plug gap is your problem .the machine only gets used once a year but yet it has gas in it all year round and that gas does go bad with time, so i would suggest you replace all the gas, if its a 2 stroke you need to mix it with 2 stroke oil the spark plug just needs drying use a cigarette lighter to burn off the wetness at the tip if plug is two seasons old you might as well replace it cost maybe 3 dollars and you eliminate guess work

Won't start. Mower was in storage and unused for 2 yrs. Replaced spark plug. Still won't start.

IF you are turning it over and getting spark then your not getting fuel
2 year old gas can turn to sludge plugging the filter in the gas tank clean the tank out - blow the fuel line from the carb. back to the tank- use fresh gas she should run

#2 clyinder not firing in a 02 eldorado with 19000 miles on the car

There are several possibilities.
Based on the year (2002) and low miles (19,000) it probably has the original Plugs, Wires and Coil. Rubber insulation on Wires does dry rot over a period of time. Spark Plugs should be changed about every 3 to 4 years regardless of miles. Wires should be replaced every other Spark Plug change. Translated you should be on you 3rd set of Spark Plugs and 2nd set of wires.
When working in the engine compartment and with the electrical system remember: ther is 40,000 to 75,000 volts present. Bad Wires could mean an electrical shock!
You can cheaply purchase Ignition (Spark Plug/Wire/Coil) Test Kits at most auto parts stores or even at Harbor Freight.
1) Remove the #2 Wire connection to the #2 Coil position.
2) Insert the tester into the #2 Coil position. Clipping the other end onto the engine block or onto a good ground.
3) Start the Engine.
4) You will be looking for a good strong (blue) and rhythmic spark. If it is not strong (yellow or orange) nor rhythmic, the Coil is malfunctioning and should be replaced.
5) If it is a good rhythmic spark, Turn OFF the Engine.
6) Disconnect the Tester and reconnect the #2 Wire to the #2 Coil position.
7) Disconnect the #2 Wire from the #2 Spark Plug.
8) Connect the Tester into the end of the #2 Wire. Clipping the other end to the engine block or a good ground.
9) Start the Engine.
10) Again you are looking for a strong (blue) and rhythmic spark. If is not strong (yellow or orage) and rhythmic, the Wire is bad and should be replaced. Wires should always be changed as a Set is the standard rule.
11) If it is a good rhythmic spark, Turn OFF the Engine.
12) Remove the #2 Spark Plug out of the engine.
13) Check the Igntion end of the Plug for carbon, dirt, or being fouled. Check the Gap.
14) Insert the #2 Spark Plug back into the #2 Wire.
15) Using the Spark Plug Tester. Connect the Tester to the #2 and clip the other end to the engine block or a good ground.
16) Start the Engine.
17) Once again you should be checking for a strong (blue) and rhythmic spark. If it is not strong (yellow or orange) nor rhythmic, the Spark Plug could be malfunctioning.
18) Clean the #2 Spark Plug.
19) Regap the #2 Spark Plug.
20) Retest the Spark Plug.
21) If there is now a strong (blue) and rhythmic spark, then the #2 Spark Plug is now good.
22) If there is not a strong (yellow or orange) nor rhythmic spark the #2 Spark Plug is malfunctioning and needs to be replaced. Again the standard rule is to replace the Spark Plugs as a set.

The several other possibilities relate to sensors. However without additional error codes or the check engine light on, we will assume that the problem can be solved with the solution above.

Ryobi backpack leaf blower about three years hard to start

Basics to check:
1) Spark plug - brown or dark brown - OK
a) is it carbon or fuel fouled
b) is there spark

2) Muffler remove for inspection
a) exhaust screen clean or plugged
b) inspect cylinder wall/piston as the flywheel is slowly rotated
3) Check cylinder compression

Fuel starvation - 'lean fuel' condition
Basic things to check:
1) spark plug
2) spark arrestor in muffler
3) fuel lines and tank filter
4) turn adjustment needles out (counterclockwise) 1/4 to 1/2 turn
Chain Saws:
5) check impulse tube and intake boot for cracks or leaks
*if all of the above are OK and/or do not improve performance then:
Remove Carburetor
6) replace gaskets/diaphragms
a) use a spray carb cleaner to clean jets, holes, and body of carb
b) fuel pump diaphragm goes against the carb body,
then the gasket towards the outside
c) metering gasket goes against the carb body,
and the diaphragm goes towards the outside

Troy bilt tc 300 tiller that will not start. Have changed spark plug, used new fuel. Less than 2 years old.

Pull several times with choke set full if spark plug is not wet you have carborator issue. If spark plug is wet you probably have a bad connection to spark plug in boot or issue with spark lead. Pull spark plug, replug into lead, lay on head and pull rope to see if you have spark. Do not hold onto plug or you may get shocked.

Toro Recycler with Techumseh enging will not start

Make sure it can breath. Check the airfilter element. If its oil soaked replace it. Sounds like this engine cannot breath. This engine is set ,there are not jets to replace. Champion Plugs are not the problem FIRE IS FIRE . Fresh Gas if it aint less than 30 days old it aint fresh. Todays designer fuel goes stale quickly.
