Question about Computers & Internet

1TB WD essentials external harddrive timing out.

I just bought a 1TB WD essentials external harddrive, and whenever I try to copy something to it, the copying process freezes 3 or 4 seconds in. I've been able to upload a single music album as it didn't take over those 4 seconds to copy. What's going on?
I've got a Sager laptop with a 2 Ghz core 2 duo and 1 gig of RAM and a 40 gig internal drive.

There is a WD utility that controls the drive setup. One thing it controls is the sleep time. This sounds like what you are seeing. I know the default sleep or hibernate time is annoyingly short. All you need to do is run the utility look for the sleep time and change it to a much longer period. I don't think it can actually be disabled but you can set it to an hour or so.

I have a 1TB WD my passport external harddrive and its not recognised on my sony blu ray

You are trying to conect this disk to the standalone Sony bluray device with USB cable?
You are sure sony have implemented this functions (external disk support) on this player?

Now knowing enough about the sony device, you should first of all see through the users manual. There could be a FAT(32) / NTFS issue. Some devices like this does not support NTFS, and the drive must be formated with FAT32.

My Book 1Tb will not let me put movies on it

I know exactly what your problem is. You are trying to add a file bigger than 4 GB on a fat32 external hard drive. You simply cant put something that big in there without breaking it into smaller bits. You could easily add a bunch of small files just not huge files bigger than 4GB.
Your solution would be to reformat your WD external drive to a ntfs. That can be done as easy as right clicking your external drive through my computer and highlighting "reformat". Good luck and I hope you dont forget this little thing about computers..sometimes when you get a good deal on pc hardware its for a reason :)
this is good for all hard drives including western digital
