Re: forgot startup password

When you forgot windows 7 password, you can bypass it with third-party password reset tools, take Windows Login recovery for Example, it is professional software working for windows 7 password recovery. You can download it and follow its guide to burn a password reset CD/DVD or USB falsh drive to get your Windows 7 password reset or bypassed.

I forgot the startup / CMOS password for my Sony VGN-TX17GP laptop, at start up it prompts to "enter password", I tried all my passwords with no luck, can anyone help here please?

if for some reason it went back to the default you should try one of these:
  • AMI
  • Award
  • bios
  • setup
  • cmos
  • concat
  • AMI_SW (case sensitive)
  • AMI!SW/
  • AMI?SW/
  • j262
If that doesn't work you can reset your BIOS by removing all power to it (you would need to open your laptop and locate the battery that powers the BIOS), or applying some jumpers or ultimately solding them
If you have access to your laptop you can run a tool to reset it. PC BIOS Security and Maintenance Toolkit used to do the trick but not sure you can still find it online.

Hello, can help me, my laptop ACER EXTENZA 4630 SERIES, why i can open the password bios when i re install the laptop..? thanks

Yes by default the bios is unprotected/no password. All you have to do if you want to setup bios password just go to bios then create supervisor password then it will have password everytime you need to access the bios. For info. bios password is not related to re-installation / installing your OS.

I want to know the features from F1 to F12 for IBM Thinkpad laptop

I believe the features of the function (Fn) keys vary on different models.

This webpage from Lenovo Support covers the ThinkPad R60, R60e, R61, T60, T60p, T61, Z61e, Z61m, Z61t, you may have to search your model as it may be different.

Forgot start up password

if the password comes when the system is turned on then it can be removed by removing the cell from cabinet of your system and if you applied the password at the OS startup then press ctrl+alt+del and login as administrator without typing the password

Locked out

you can try loggin on to safe mode suing F8 might be an option if you have not set the adminstrator password.

if you are able to log on in safemode you can go to user account under control panel and reset the pasword.

If you have password there too . you may need to have a windows xp cd to go to reocvery console

thank you

A adminstrstive password was put on my laptop and we forgot what it was anf we cant get pass the screen any help would be apprecated

To log on to a computer as the administrator to reset a password, when that computer is in a workgroup of more than one member, follow these steps:
  1. Log on as an administrator.
    1. Restart the computer, and then press the F8 key during startup until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears.
    2. On the Windows Advanced Options menu, use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode, and then press ENTER.
    3. Select Microsoft Windows XP edition, and then press ENTER.

Note In this step, edition represents the correct Windows edition.
    4. On the To begin, click your user name screen, click Administrator, and then type the administrator password.
    5. Press ENTER, and then click Yes.
  2. Reset the password.
    1. Click Start and then click Run.
    2. Type control userpasswords2, and then click OK.
    3. Click the name of the user account that you want to reset the password for.
    4. Click Change the Password, and then type a new password.

Note If you do not want to use a password, click Remove password, and then continue to step "e."
    5. Click Change Password.
    6. Restart the computer, and then try to log on to Windows XP again

If it's an operating system password, then press F8 at start up to enter safe mode, log in as administrator, from here you can go in and clear user passwords. If it's a bios password, it can't be cleared in a Thinkpad. If you have any trouble or if it's a bios password let me know.
