I had this problem a year ago (just when It finish warranty) and after a week, suddently worked. During a whole year it was working ok and again it is failing but now are other different buttons failing (not the same ones). I'm wondering this could be a software/hardware related issue but it hard to corroborate.

From the description a major part has failed, the magnetron is suspect because it suddenly shut down in cycle, if the unit is less than 7 years old it probably has a inverter board and tends to fail, also there is the possibility the keypad control board has stopped working. The microwave in my opinion is worth getting checked out and repaired, but it will be expensive.
I have the same TV which had the same issue ( green in picture ) - back on 10/2007. I called Sony. They had their technician replace the optical box ( factory defect ). There was no charge for the repair even though TV was out of first year of warranty. Call Sony.
Dear alexlewis, the problem is caused
by either software or hardware. The proposed solutions for both are the
following. Software:
The phone needs to be flashed with the firmware of the same or newer revision
with the appropriate FS and language packs. This is complicated for an average
user. If in warranty it can be done for free at any SE repair service center.
Remember if you are in the EU the warranty is 24 months by law. Hardware:
The phones Motherboard is defective and a replacement motherboard is needed.
This repair can be done only in a SE repair service center. Another possibility (minimal) is the flex LCD cable (If you know how to repair phones the LCD Flex cable costs 5 Euro delivered from Hong Kong or China at Ebay) TIP:
I have seen this happening in many phones and most of them were hardware
faults. (70%) Regards
