Question about SimpleTech SimpleDrive Pininfarina 500GB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive - Onyx

1 Answer

I have not used my drive for a few months. When I attach it, the system tries to install device and ask for software which I don't have. It does not recognise this device. I don't recall having to install any software or drivers. Were there any? If so, how do I get them?

Good one, if the drive was there and now it dosn't show you can try this.
put the drive in, let it do it's install thing. just ignore it.

click start and right click on computer and go to manage.

Go to disk management on the left column and chek to see if the drive has a letter assigned to it. If not assign it a letter if it dosn't show in that list then you might have to find some drivers for it and install them manually

HP recovery disks don't boot!

Sounds like you need a windows vista operating system disc. The recovery discs set your system back to factory settings like when you first brought it home from the store. But to me, the system is bloated with all the software and trial junk that you don't need. If you can get your hands on a Vista Operating System Disc, then do a clean install from it. Just make sure your Certificate Of Authentication (COA) sticker is readable so that you can activate the vista once you've got it loaded. If you can't get your hands on a system disc, take it to a computer repair shop, I would think you could find one that will load the operating system for $60 or less.

Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop When I insert a disk in the CD drive, nothing comes up on the screen to ask me what I want to do with it. I have tried different disks. Recently was one that came with a router...

Two possibilities; a dead CD drive or a corrupted device driver (Windows likes to trash these so we don't get too bored).
Since it isn't operating anyhow, I would open the Control Panel, open the System folder, click on the Hardware tab, select Device Manager, find DVD/CD (ROM) drives and then delete the appropriate drive.
Reboot your system with nothing in the CD drive and watch for a dialog window telling you that Windows has found a 'new device' and is installing the software. If it does this successfully, it should finally tell you the device is ready to use although if the driver is not found on the hard drive in the library, it may ask for an installation disk. You should have either factory disks or a set you made when the system was new. If you don't, you will have to download them, best from the Dell website.
Good luck-

I want to change the background

Back up your files onto CD-ROMs or a flash drive. Have original copies of all the software you use as well, as it will need to be reinstalled after the new operating system is in place. In addition, any drivers for devices you have attached to the system will need to be backed up.
  • Insert the CD-ROM for the new operating system into the computer while it is turned off. Boot up to the CD. This may require you to enter into the system's CMOS and set up the CD-ROM drive as a bootable device.
  • Format the hard drive using the utility provided on your new operating system's CD-ROM. Most installation procedures will do this for you or walk you through the event. This will wipe out all information currently on your computer system, so it is imperative that you completed Step 1 beforehand.
  • Follow the installation instructions on your new operating system's CD-ROM. Advanced options may be available, but are only recommended for computer users with experience in installation of operating systems.
  • Reboot and reinstall old software and files from back-up copies, including software and drivers for devices you have attached to the computer. After all software and drivers are installed, reboot again. New drivers may have to be obtained from device manufacturers if the drivers you have currently do not work with your new operating system.please rate this post by raising the thumb up

Tried to load HP Laserjet 3015 s0ftware with printer plugged in. That failed. Now getting "finds new hardware" when I try to load the software even though nothing is plugged in. software is not asking me...

The thing is printer is automatically detected by the system and there was no proper driver was installed and it is in device manger installed as other device with yellow mark. Just uninstall it. And click on scan for hardware changes. To go to device manager right click on my computer and go to properties then hardware in that click on device manger and check there is any other device is listed if it is there just remove it and click for scan for hardware changes when he prompt for driver reinstall the driver cd.

Don’t connect the printer usb cable first
1st you install the driver disc which is come along with the printer and when the software prompt you to connect the cable then plug the usb cable and follow the instruction.

Have a nice day and do not forget to rate please...!

    • Next check the hardware in My Computer > Device Manager if there are "yellow marks" for devices that require driver software to be installed.
When devices e.g. printer is connected before you installed the needed software, it can happen that the USB port is no longer recognized.
Then remove the device that shows having problems in the hardware manager.
    Next install the software.
Connect afterwards or at the time the computer asks to do so.

    Install flash drive

What type of operating system you are using? If it is a Windows XP's or vista it is a "Plug and Play" i.e automatically detects the type of device that's been attached and, if needed, automatically installs the appropriate drivers for it.
Windows "Plug and Play" plays very well with USB. Chances are installing your USB flash drive means simply plugging it in, and letting Windows do the rest. (It may ask you for your Windows installation CD to get drivers.) When done, you should find another drive letter on your machine that is the USB drive.
To be clear, you should definitely review any documentation that came with your USB device.
While flash drives and other "disk-like" devices tend to just work, manufacturers of other devices often have you install their software on your system before plugging the device in for the first time.
So just check the materials that came with your new peripheral.

Your taskbar should notified you that new hardware installed ". Click on that, select the device you wish to remove, and Windows will do things like flush the disk buffers and ensure that from the operating systems point of view it's safe to unplug it.

    Usb host controller

    Hello,

There are no drivers to install if you are not using Windows98 but are using an OS that is more recent. As to adding devices to your USB ports and those devices, such as a printer, needed to be attached to the port in a a proper sequence... usually after the software is installed and the software instructs you to do so. Same goes for the Scanner and the Mouse.

What to do? Uninstall the software for those devices, un-attach them from your system. Reboot and then install the software first and when instructed to do so attach the USB cable to a port. Do that for each device and reboot first if asked to before proceeding to the next device.

Try plugging your USB cable (attached to your player) into the computer before you turn the computer on and boot up . . . I had this same problem with a flash drive that the computer would not recognize if I plugged it into the computer while the computer was already on.
