Question about Crosley CR247 Shelf System

1 Answer

Crosley CR247 never used, sat for almost year, display :"OPEN"

Push power, display: "HELLO" and then "OPEN." Push function, nothing happens. Display never changes. Remote works to turn unit on and off. But manually or by remote, all I can do is turn it on or off. Suggestions?

Seems you need to go to the spesific mode, fono, or radio mode.

Is your display stuck just saying "HELLO" or is it actually saying "open" on the LCD?

If it's the "hello" error, you simply need to let the unit warm up for about 6-10 minutes (plugged in on standby), and only THEN push the function button to switch into a mode - according to Crosley some units need some "boot-up" time. I've also found that if that doesn't work, I power it off, and then as it starts to hum to life - I press play on the CD player and that sort of jolts it out of HELLO and into fully working status, even with no CD in the drive!

Btw - the "wait six minutes and then press function" came directly from a Crosley support tech, and they also say you can try unplugging for an hour, then do the six minute wait. I found that if the unit has been unplugged for a while or you're getting the HELLO, it's better to have it in Standby (aka plugged in but not powered on) for that hour, than unplugged. If you still can't get it to work after trying all that - contact Crosley directly at 1-866-276-7532 (1-866-Crosley) and they're at work 24/7 so you can call whenever you'd like!

One last bit of advice - if you're OK with the power draw from the LCD display being constant, switch your unit to PHONO (nothing's going to spin, attempt to make noise, etc. unless you use the turntable or tape deck). It's a good way to avoid having to do all this when you want to use the unit if you use it a lot :) Hello can be forever - but it can be worked around!

How to open cd drawer

Oh my God, the answers I\'ve found on the net on how to get the CD drawer on a Crosley CR247 open are all nuts. Mine wouldn\'t open yesterday and I dismantled the whole damn thing to get the tray open, but that isn\'t necessary.

First of all my unit was making noise when I hit the eject button but the drawer wouldn\'t open. I knew there was no CD in the tray. Powering down and all the other foolish answers I found didn\'t work. There is no small round hole in the front to do a manual eject. Trying to pry the door open won\'t work and you\'ll just damage the unit. Here\'s what you need to do. And do it all GENTLY. There is no need to force anything!

Take a small, pointed steak knife out of your kitchen silverware drawer. This is all you\'ll need to get the drawer open. First let\'s identify where we\'re going to put that knife blade. The CD drawer says "CD RECORDER" and there are 3 lines on each side of that label. Where you\'re going to put that knife is below the 3 lines on the left, to the left area of those lines (see picture). This is the location of the drawer lock.

If you still hear noise when you push the eject simply push in the knife gently as you push the eject button. The drawer will open if you got the right spot.

If you hear no noise, or your unit is dead and you want the CD out, or if you\'re just afraid to stick the knife in the unit, unplug the unit. Gently push in on that spot until the drawer pops out a little bit. Now you can gently open the drawer by hand.

You can see the drive belt and pulleys (see pic). Mine was still intact but needs replaced. Here is also the info I got off of the back of the CD (see pic). Might not be able to find a replacement belt but at least you can get the thing open. Good luck.

Need a user manuel for a Crosley#CR247 where can I find one?

If you have the Crosley Composer CR247 CD recorder and turntable, the manual is available from the product page from Crosley: http://www.crosleyradio.com/Product.aspx?pid=1791 . The direct link to the manual is http://www.crosleyradio.com/Manuals/CR247_Manual.pdf .

I hope this helps.

Crosley Radio CR246 CD door will not open

Try checking these:

- the CD door motor rubber drive belt (if there is one), it could be either loosened or broken, if so, it needs to be replaced

- the door open/closed sensor switches (contacts), they could be oxydized or damaged, they are located somewhere under the CD tray, possibly at the front end of the unit (depends on brand and model), you need to clean these with some fine sandpaper

It could be something else like the door motor driver IC, the power supply for the motor, a bad capacitor in the motor drive section, a loose connection or a broken wire somewhere, but hopefully, it's just a bad rubber belt or a dirty contact.

Won't power up; push power button on, hear click in back left of unti, get nothing on front display and no output from speakers; as if unit trying to operate

Disconnect the speakers and see what happens. Carefully examine the speaker cables for unwanted connections (shorts).
Take a clue from when the power problem appeared. Something was moved and made the buzz a (probable) dead short.

Display

Hello stretchv(?St.Francis) & alk45. this appears as a mutual problem. I "NEED MORE INPUT" . Does the unit peform any functions? Does a PWR indicator lightup? If you got the GUTS open the unit up CAREFULLY and unplug the display PCbd, clean the contact surfaces with a #2 pencil eraser or if it uses a ribbon cable reseat the plugs carefully. Oh yes, make sure it is uplugged form the AC power BEFORE you put a screw driver to it. Good Luck.
