Lexmark z1300 ink jet cartridge refill instructions

Refilling is no problem, but resetting the emty/full chip is very hard without specific instructions. Usually accomplished by placing scotch tape over contacts on cartridge and placing in printer in a specific sequence that resets the chip.

As indicated in the original description, filling is easy but the printer will not print with it until the chip in the cartridge is reset to indicate that it is full of ink. I could not find a refill supplier(including the one in your solution) that has a kit, and instructions for the Z1300 printers ink cartridges.

I am sorry for that. I didn't take the time to look at and understand the rating system. I do appreciate that you tried to help.

Lexmark 1300 Printer does not allow me to print after refilling the used cartridge. Keeps requesting I order new cartridge.

  • musica580 Aug 22, 2008

I am having the same problem. I always refill my own cartridges, but when I bought this Lexmark for so cheap (now I know why!), I had no clue that I would not be able to bypass ANY printer chips. I usually find a way to bypass the printer chip. Please let me know if you find a solution. Thanks.

Use the #34 high yield cartridge. I am presently using a 34 that I refilled. You just have to put up withthe pop ups that tell you to order new ink. Just press close, then continue. it is working fine. Sometimes it asks you to report a non lexmark cartridge.

  • ummyguy May 11, 2010

Was wondering if you swapped cartridges with someone else that has the same model if that would work ? I heard that if you replace original cartridge with a "High Yield" #34 that it might solve the problem , but can't comfirm ?? Can anyone help all of us who have bought this piece of junk ?

  • ummyguy May 11, 2010

Right !! But what are the specific sequences ???? Talked to "Geek Squad" and they have no codes to reset chip for the ink cartridges ...

  • ummyguy May 11, 2010

Anyone find out how to reset the chip on the Lexmark Z1300 printers yet ??? Printing with color ink presently , soon both colors will expire , then what ???

In order to refill the black ink cartridge on a Lexmark 1300 you need to purchase a 28a (18c1528)
cartridge. The 28 black ink cartridge is a return program cartridge and it won't let you refill it.
I found one at a site called computer friends for around $21.00. You can also google lexmark 28a ink
cartridge you can find them. I hope this helps. I've been frustrated with this problem also

How do I refill the Epson Stylus SX125 ink cartridges ?

You can refill an Epson ink cartridge, but you will need an "SK168-II Chip Resetter" to clear and reset the cartridge memory chip. The cartridge will still show as empty after refilling and not work until it is reset. The refill ink should have come with an instruction sheet. If not check their web site for instructions. If the cartridge has been empty for a while and you can hear the sponge inside when shaking it - it has fried out and cannot be refilled. The dust particles from the dried sponge will plug up the jets.

Some aftermarket printer ink sales web sites will offer the chip resetter for Epson printers.

Refill inkcartridge 17 of lexmark x2250 don't work

“Lexmark does not support the refilling of its ink cartridges. Refilling the ink cartridges can cause them to leak, thus clogging or even damaging the print head. Any damage to your printer caused by refilled ink cartridges may not be covered under warranty”. Please use genuine Lexmark cartridges for best results.

Printing with generic cartridges

Lexmark International does not recommend the use of third party inks or inkjet cartridge refill kits. Genuine Lexmark inks and cartridges are perfectly matched to the printing system. Using genuine Lexmark ink and cartridges ensures that every document produced is of the highest possible print quality, providing long-term dependable service from your Lexmark printer.

Lexmark cannot assure the excellent print quality and reliability of its inkjet cartridges after a cartridge has been refilled. Using incompatible inks in an attempt to extend the life of a genuine Lexmark cartridge beyond its recommended usage can cause failures in several different areas of the printer. Inkjet cartridges and printer failures caused by refilling or a third party ink are not covered by your Lexmark printer Warranty, Extended Warranty or Service Agreement.

Please use genuine Lexmark cartridges for best results.

I refilled my ink cartridges to my HP photo copy printer

Refilling is more trouble than it's worth isn't it...there is probably a chip that also needs to be replaced to reset the cartridge

Without the make and model I can give you the following information: A print cartridge consists of the ink bellows or chambers, ink jets, which meter out ink in known dispensing rates, and a little chip that keeps track of the ink that is dispensed. Commercial refilling houses have the hardware and software to reset the little chips back to "full". And when you purchase that cartridge, it meters out ink from full to empty. There may be a utility in your printer control on your desktop to allow you to override and reset to full yourself. This is dependent upon what brand and model, and the software provided by the printer manufacturer.

Ink levels on lexmark z1300

I bought this same printer and after trying numerous things to refill the cartridges (which are detailed at, I have concluded that if you are using black cartridge #28 and/or color cartridge #29 you cannot refill because these are the "return program" cartridges. These specific cartridges cannot be refilled and technically any attempt to refill them is against Lexmark contract which you agreed to when you opened the sealed bag the cartridge came in.(Dont believe me? check the bag) I think the bag also said that there can be criminal charges filed against you if you refill these cartridges but I seriously doubt that lexmark would go after you since it has never happened before. My recommendation is to purchase the more expensive 34 and 35 high yield cartridges which I believe but cannot confirm will let you refill. What did you expect from lexmark? This printer is sold at a loss and do you really think that they would sell you a printer so darn cheap and not expect to make that money back somehow? These printers are usually picked up by cheapskates (such as myself) who have no intention to buy any more cartridges other then the initial one. Well ive learned the hard way that lexmark as well as other printer companies are now fighting back. If you want cheap ink I hear that KODAK is selling a printer that is a bit more expensive then the other brands but has very cheap cartridges. Oh and If you did buy the high yield cartridges then please reply so I can update the thread on and let everyone know.

Hope this helps makes things a bit more clear. Thanks for reading!

I bought this same printer at wal-mart and for the price, it's desposable. When the price of a printer with a color cartridge is about the same as the price of the ink cartridge itself, then I'm happy if I can make it through the ink before it stops working. Mine won't power on anymore, but I don't feel screwed by Lexmark or Wal-Mart, I GOT WHAT I PAID FOR. If you want a better printer you have to pay for it.
