My computer powers up for about two seconds, then it powers down. The green light on my power supply is solid green. Am I having a power supply problem? All of the fans come on when powering up. They all just go off after power down. It seems top be doing this in a loop. The computer will come on for two seconds, then go off, then come on, then go off.

I would replace power supply or double check power supply connections and make sure there is tight fit in outlet. You can test power supply with voltmeter to see if it is putting out correct voltage.

Could be a couple of things. Try and dust out your computer. If you are comfortable take a look at your mobo while you have the case open. Look for capacitors that are bulging. Are there any beeps before it loops?

I have a Dell Dimension E521. When I cut the power on everything comes on including the monitor, but the monitor will stay black. It does say something about power save hit any button but the screen

A solid green light means the computer is operating normally.

A solid yellow light indicates the power supply is operating normally but the computer is not processing data.

This could mean there is a problem with the CPu or another component on the motherboard.

((A blinking yellow light indicates the power supply is receiving power from the wall, but not functioning properly.
This generally means the power supply itself is bad and should be tested or replaced.))

A blinking green light means the computer is in standby mode.

You should consider visiting Dell Support and downloading the manual for your

your Dell computer. So use the LED power light codes if your Dell computer has them.

hope this helps

My dell inspiron 1525 power light is blinking amber???

Most newer models of Dell computers now have a diagnostic LED surrounding the power button on the from of the computer. When you press the power button to boot the PC, the light should be green and remain green under normal circumstances. Any other lights will help you troubleshoot the power issue you are having.

So use the LED power light codes if your Dell computer has them. Also pay attention to any unusual beeps or sounds coming from the computer. Then join us in our free computer tech support forums and we'll try and help you solve your PC problem. Sometimes, however, a service call to Dell will be required. If your system is still under warranty, you should always just call them first, as tampering with your computer may void your warranty.

Hope this helps!

Computer will not turn on....how do I check to see if power supply is faulty? I have power supply removed and have a tester to check for dc voltage etc

I just went through a heap of troubleshooting with power supply issues before swapping psu's and finding this was the solution to my problem. Had a closer look at my psu that was faulty, the green light was flashing on the psu, unplugged all components and thought that I now had a non-flashing green light on my psu, on closer inspection the light was actually flashing very fast so appeared to be an almost solid light...the psu was stuffed so replaced it and no more issues. If your power supply has a green light check to see if it is flashing when plugged into voltage with nothing connected to it. If it is a solid light then it is probably ok.

Power supply or motherboard problem?

Hi talissap,

The blinking light is telling you something about the PSU. First check any AC mains voltage select switches for proper setting. US should be 115. Second if you have a multimeter, you could test the PSU for voltage. Disconnect all power to all components. remove all components from the board including cpu, memory . Leave the PSU only plugged into the board. Press power. If the fan turns on then it's not the power supply. The brand power supply isn't the best, I've seen where you need to wait for 5-20 minutes for the blinking to stop, at which time it will fire up. Now, if it doesn't power up, then it's most likely the PSU.

Good Luck,

Mark

Flashing Green Light on Power BESTEC Power Supply

This is an easy fix so here you go nice and simple:

Problem: Your motherboard circuit has been cut.

Causes: Power disconnected during operation. Power outage or short in the surge protector.

Symptoms: Flashing green light on both motherboard and power supply. System will not power on.

Solution:

Step 1: Ensure that both the power supply and the motherboard lights are flashing green, not solid or off.
Step 2: While the power is on, disconnect the power supply from the motherboard. This connection is the largest of the connections and should be listed as the 'P1' or 'Primary' power connection.

Step 3: Wait until the green light on the motherboard stops flashing and check to ensure that the green light on the power supply is now solid. If it is not solid, disconnect the power to the power supply and wait until the light turns off completely. Then reconnect, it should be solid now.

Step 4: While the power is on, reconnect the P1 connection to the motherboard and you should now see that the light on the motherboard is solid.

Step 5: Power on your PC. The problem should not persist.

Warnings: If the power supply light remains flashing after you have restored power to it while it is disconnected from the motherboard, it may be a system failure in the power supply itself requiring replacement. Always be careful when working with an active or live power machine.

I hope this helped! Good luck!

Ensure That your Power button is clicking back and staying connected - this would cause the computer to shut down immediately.

Either the new power supply you purchased is not functioning correctly. But, assuming it is now that you are getting some form of power to your PC, it is very likely the motherboard. Whatever fried your old power supply (or it could have just been the power supply itself) most likely fried your motherboard in the process. Probably not the CPU since the MB can't even post.
