Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

Channel button on remote will not change the channel, nor will the buttons for up channel or down channel on the side of the tv work. You can change channels only by pushing the number buttons. My dad has Alzheimers and may have pushed a wrong set of buttons. My questions are: is there a code for channel changing to make the remote respond to the tv and visa versa? And if so, once I have the code, how do I do the procedure. My dad is in a nursing home 80 miles away and I only get over there once a week to see and help him. He can't see well and uses the elongated channel button by feel. Right now the home is keeping it on one of his favorite channels, but being able to change channels is one of the last things he can do by himself. If there is any help in this matter, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Sincerely, Linda Jones ljones@crownoak.com ps>I found a code on one of the answers here, but it doesn't really say how to get it working or if its the right code for what I need. Sep 09, 2009 - Thank you for your reply. I really appreciate it. However, as I said above, the maintenance crew did not keep any of the papers, warrenty nor booklets that were in the box with the tv. There also is no company (other in China) that deals with this Brand nor will the store (Target) help as they have no solutions or information to help with this tv. However, I did receive another solution and will try it tomorrow to see if it works. So thank you for taking the time to answer my help call! Linda

Hi, There is no service center for this tv. I've started at the store purchased and gone on from there on the internet-no one services this brand. Nor is there any way to get a copy of the operating manual. However, someone did solve my problem with this solution and it worked:
Went to the channel scanner and let it scan all the channels without interuption. Once it reached 100% and finished the channels were fixed and it's operating fine now.
So the problem was that I did need to reset the channels-just did not know how to do that step. So, I thank everyone who gave me tips-whether they completely helped or not, because they all added up to the solution I needed to solve the problem. My dad is happy to be able to use the remote again. That is the bonus! Thank you! Linda

Won't channel up and down, stuck in input mode

Good morning Cheri
try restarting the tv, just disconnect all electricity for 30-60 sec.
connect again. If that does not work, Try set- up on the menu, if you get the apparatus to obey you and leave the input mode.
If that does not work I always restart the router and "exchange"box,
enjoy your day

I am looking for a remote code for a curtis 26' lcd tv so i can control it with my directv remote.

your direct tv remote has an optional code search that is useful by using the channel up and channel down buttons try to program as usual and after pressing the tv button use the channel buttons until the channel changes, when it changes hold down the mute button for a couple of seconds

Channel buttons change input

Auto channel search is your friend. Once the tv has been through it and finds active channels, your channel button should work the way you envision.

Getting a specific channel on the TV without using a remote

Usually if you go into the setup menu, there is an option to allow you to either "scan" for a channel, or "input" a channel. In this case, select "input" and see if the TV will allow you to press the up and down channel buttons and go to a specific channel. If so, when you get to channel 4, press the "add this channel" option (or whatever the menu option says) and you should then be able to go to channel 4 using the buttons on the front without skipping over it.

Can't change channel using the remote or buttons on tv

Simple Fix

I had the same problem, couldn't change the channels with the remote or on the side of the TV. This was for a Vizio 37"

Here is the fix:

1. Turn on TV

2. With remote, press the Menu Button

3. Go to Antenna Menu

4. Select Auto Search
Let it search, it could take several minutes. It may not finish to 100%, mine got stuck at 79% for 10 minutes. It's fine if that happens, go ahead and cancel.

5. It should be done, your remote will work perfect along with the TV channel buttons.

Remote not working on TV

Try programming with Code Search:

1. Manually turn on the device (TV, VCR, etc.) to be controlled.

2. Press and hold Code Search button until the red indicator stays on. Release the Code Search button.

3. Press and release the desired mode button (TV, VCR, etc.). The red indicator blink, then stays lit.

4. Press the Channel Up button repeatedly (up to 300 times) until the device could be controlled changes channel. The red indicator blinks, then stays lit. If you accidentally overshoot the code required, press the Channel Down button to backtrack through the library until the device changes channel. Pressing Channel Up changes direction to forward again. Press and release the Mute button to install the code.

Hope this helps :)

I am stuck on channel 2

some tv's default to channel 2 after being unplugged.since it is a older tv ,the buttons on the remote and the tv maybe worn down.on the tv itself try pushing the buttons down a liitle harder. if you have aux or line in/video inputs, scroll down on the channel button to log into a aux channel for the dvd player.as for the remote try buying a cheap universal remote to see if that works.
good luck

Either the channel up and down buttons have both broken (unlikely) or everything else is working except the remote is not telling the device you are controlling to change the channel up or down.

Since all the other buttons are working well, that also requires that the receiving end of the pair to be working well, thus ruling out problems on that end.

Solution: Reprogram your remote to support the appropriate channel up/down codes for your TV/Tuner in question.
