GE fridge not cold.

If the coil (in the freezer) is icing up then it's not being properly defrosted on a regular basis, ie. 2 - 3 times a day. On older models it's usually just a simple matter of replacing the defrost timer. On newer models, the defrost timer is integral with the 'motherboard', so the whole (expensive Chinese made) motherboard must be replaced because they're not serviceable.

Less likely (but possible) are the defrost heating element and/or temperature sending unit found on or near the coil itself. Least likely is a low refrigerant level, which would indicate a leak.

Cleaning & Maintenance

From general experience (I'm 55) : Depends on where the heat transfer coils are; on the back or the bottom or both. If on the Back: should be cleaned with a brush & vacuum at least every 3-6 months. If on the bottom, about every 2-6 months. Bottom coils can usually be accessed from the front by opening the door/ removing drawers and pulling off an access cover. Bottom coils also usually have a Fan that can get clogged with dust/ mice(Yes! Mice.) that hurts the performance also. May have to pull it out and remove a back cover. For the rest, Check the condition of the door seals and replace any that are not completely closing. Keep the seal surfaces and the insides clean. Defrost regularly (every1 to 2 months) to prevent ice buildup. Some units also have interior fans, that are supposed to function when the unit is attemting to cool.

How do I go about 'cleaning the coils' on a GE profile model - freezer is having trouble holding 0 F and I was told this would help. thanks

It is not necessary to clean the evaporator coil.
The condenser coil underneath may need cleaning.
Use a long handle bottle brush and a vacuum cleaner.
Your refrigerator freezer temp will fluctuate from minus 5 degrees to plus 18 degrees on a regular basis.
It will not be a steady temp.

I have ice build up in the coils and the freezer is not freezing , thawed the coils with a dryer but in a couple of days it is back again

Can't locate specific manual for your product but sounds like a defrost problem.
Unit should defrost on a regular basis. Usually controlled by a timer. It should turn refrigeration system off, including fans, and turn on heaters to clear any frost or ice on the evap coils. Cycle varies on usage. Look for timer and see if it is running. Make a mark on it and give it an hour and check again to see if it has moved.
Hope this gets you started.

I just purchased a whirlpool side by side fridge, the salesman could not answer my question, I wanted to know if these have self cleaning condensor's on them

Good day,
There is no such thing as a self cleaning condenser.
The condenser is the black coil assembly, located at the very bottom of the refrigerator.
It is a great dirt and dust collector and must be cleaned on a regular basis, once or twice a year by hand, using a vacuum cleaner with a crevice tool attachment or by blowing out with a tank and hose of compressed air.
The second procedure is by far the better, but also messy.

MSD2656GEQ The coils on the freezer side ices up, then does not cool the refridgerator side

Hi, It's a common problem with no-frost refrigerators, you have a defrost problems, two scenarios. (1) hot air entering freezer/refrigerator, examples. hot summer days, regular openings, high room temperatures, hot foods and broken door gasket, leaving freezer/refrigerator doors slightly open overnight, could cause your evaporator (coils) to freeze/ice up. cases like this, unplug/disconnect your refrigerator, remove produce, clean and let it defrost, for an hour, make sure all ice melted. plug or reconnect your refrigerator let it work/ run empty for another hour, then put back your produce. sure it will work perfect for the next 3-4 days. (2) next type of defrost problem could be faulty defrost heater, defrost thermostat, you will have to open back panel on freezer side to check. check your defrost heaters, defrost thermostat and defrost timer, it's better to change defrost timer and defrost thermostat together, or change faulty ones independently. but before you change any parts, clean and defrost refrigerator first, could just be regular openings, hot days, etc. if after 3-4 days it started to ice up, then check following parts. defrost heater. defrost thermostat and defrost timer, let me know if icing occurs after 3-4 days then we can check those parts i suggested. remember to always disconnect/unplug your refrigerator, before attempting any repairs. good luck

GE ice maker is getting hot

You need to remove the ice maker the function that heats the lower element should last only a few seconds so I believe the ice maker will need to be rebuilt or replaced. Sea Breeze

Leaking & icing on inside coil Rheem Air Conditioner

Dirty coil. Low refrigerant. Bad fan motor.
These 3 things cause the problem described.
I charge $450 to remove and clean the coil. However, I am not in your zipcode.

Freezer/refrig not getting cold at all

Your most likely having a start relay problem. You should be hearing two motors the fao and compressor. This is a pretty easy fix. I recommend getting a 3in1 start assist kit less than 20.00. Just go with the diagram on package, it will be upside down fro the picture on package.

Jenn-air JRSD 226 side by side Fridge

Check to see if there is frost on the rear wall o f the freezer wall. If so, the units cooling coils (behind the frost) may be covered with ice. Defrosting is necessary. The refrigerator may not be defrosting at regular intervals a required. Standing open for a couple of days should defrost it but it will still be necessary to find out why it frosted over. There is a defrost control that automatically melts ice from the cooling coils on a regular basis. Maybe this control is not functioning.
