Question about John Deere 420,1020,2010,2020,2510,2520 Tractor Float

1 Answer

John deere 850 compact

I have replaced the starter, replaced battery, fuses, etc - engine will not turn over, and yes the trans is in neutral and the clutch is in.All of the lights, etc work, so power is there.
It's full of oil and fuel
The tractor will readily crank when you pull it with a chain. Is there a safety switch on the trans somewhere or something that is stopping it from cranking?

There is a switch under the seat. Just to test and not to run, you can take a jumper cable and go around the switch. If you find this works, go get a new swtich. It is very important for safety...Good luck...Lee

John Deere Z225 starting problem. The solonoid only clicks when I turn the key.I replaced the battery, the starter, the ignition switch and the starter solonoid!

With everything you have done only 2 things come to mind.
1) Safety switch open or not functioning.
2) Engine seized.

Where is the fusible link in a John Deere LX 255 lawnmower?

First thing to check is make sure you blade switch is in off position, brake/clutch is down and locked. There is a 20amp fuse in a fuse holder by the battery in engine compartment. Is it not turning over or not starting?

John deere 250 skid loader - purchased new in late 2001. every time i turn the switch to start the engine, it blows the fuse.

Apparently you have a short in the starting circuit. I would try disconnecting the start wire from the solenoid, and see if it still blows fuse. If it does it's in the control circuit. If not it's the starter solenoid.
There should be an operator present switch under the seat, that sometimes short out from an accumulation of dirt and debris that get moist. There is also a neutral safety switch and/or relays.

A,b,g Tractor Carburetor Float Dltx10: i had my john deere riding mower running then shut...

My John Deere only starts with a hammer. I have the Kawasaki engine and it is famous for bad starters, so I carry a hammer and tap on the bolt when I want to start it. So, you either have a bad solenoid in your starter, or the contacts are dirty, battery connections are dirty. Or the battery is dieing. Check it out. Hope this helps.

1989 JD 2155 2WD tractor, cannot start engine, have replaced starter switch, nothing happens, battery good. What should I check next?

Have you tried crossing the large post of the starter with the small terminal that has the engagement wire going to it[with the machine in neutral and the range lever in neutral if course].If this will make the tractor turn over then the problem is likely the neutral safety switch located under the panel that is covering the transmission just rear of the sticks.

percussive maintenance my friend. Try banging on the solenoid and starter with a hammer while in the start position. Also, if you have a voltmeter, you can see where voltage is getting to and that will help you as well.
