Question about IBM ThinkPad R50e Notebook
Many colors constantly streaming but it will not load. I am fearful about losing my music, photos, videos. what can I do?
You may have a loose video connection ot faulty video card.
Connect an external monitor to the video port of the laptop, power up the monitor first then the laptop, the video data will automatically to the external monitor if the video card is OK. If it works, then backup your music, photos and video etc.
Then power down and reseat the video cable/connector.
If the you do not get a video image on the monitor then the video card or the video RAM is faulty. The video RAM uses part of the main RAM module, reseat the RAM module/s, if this doesn't work get it tested at your friendly computer shop. If the RAM tests OK then the video card is faulty and is part of the motherboard, it cannot be fixed and a replacement motherboard may not be a cost effective solution.
In this case, remove the hard disk and put it into an USB hard disk adapter case and connect it to a working computer's USB port and you will be able to copy/backup your files to CD/DVD disks. You can also use this as an external USB hard drive for backups and file transfer, don't forget to remove the Windows folders from this drive as it is no longer needed and it will free up disk space.
