Re: outdoor refrigerator

My grandparents on both sides had refrigerators outdoors but out of the weather, never had any problems. The box actually has a very easy life outdoors when it's cold, it doesn't have to work very hard at all.

To continue from my last Question, to do with HVAC Evaporator/Condenser Cycles, how often should the System go into Heat Standby, Heat Defrost, and Heat Modes? What are Heat Standby and Heat Defrost?

In this type of system (heat pump), the evap and condenser swap functions by means of a reversing valve, according to the mode selected. Evaps throw off cool air, condensers, warm air. In heat mode, the condenser is the indoor coil and it throws off heat from the outside air. Vice versa for the cooling mode. Heat Standby would be whenever the temperature thermistor has reached set point by the user and shuts down the system. Heat defrost is the cycle that reverses refrigerant flow and defrosts the outdoor coil by sending warm refrigerant liquid to that coil. In heat mode, the outdoor coil builds frost and ice on its surface.

Is the condersor fan supposed to run for the same length of time that the compressor run

If the condenser is located outside, & the outdoor temperature is cool, there will be some sort of ambient controller that cycles the outdoor fan off to maintain refrigerant pressures as not to freeze. so to answer your question...not always & depends on system.

I have a walk in freezer with 404a, I am reading about 25 on the low side, the outside temp is about 110 degrees, its not low on freon, and everything seems to be working fine, except I cant get the temp down...

What is the high side pressure?
Are the indoor and outdoor coils clean?
Indoor and outdoor fan motors working OK?
Ice on the coils or expansion valve?
Is the unit sized correctly for the space?

Hi i have a coldmatic walk in freezzer it did not frozen anything. can itt be the controler for the temperture be broken. it run but i did not go down to the freezing temperture. what can i do?

It will not cool if its not running, if it runs all the time and is not freezing then the charge could be low. If it not running and thus not cooling then the cold control could be the problem, but there are usually other controls that are there to protect the system, such as low and high pressure switches, low ref. would open it and a dirty cond. coil would open the high pressure switch, and then both the indoor and outdoor fans need to be running, the indoor fan will run 24/7 unless its defrosting. Hope this helps

Frigidaire refrigerator with a broken freezer

He is correct. The temp in the refrig controls how often and for how long the refrig runs. Lets say the temp in your garage is 34 degrees, and you have your refrig set to 36 degrees: The refrig will never run, the fresh foods section will cool to 34, and the freezer will warm to 34. Even if the temp is 45 in the garage and you set the fresh foods to be 33, the refrig will not need to run long enough and often enough to keep the freezer temp cold enough. You will most likely need to have the ambient room temp at least 55 degrees to get satisfactory refrigerator performance. Insulating the refrig will not help. (by the way, outdoor beverage vending machines use an internal heater in cold weather to prevent liquid beverages inside from freezing,..... so using that info, you could put a low wattage heater in your refrig to make your refrig run enough to make the freezer section work. The %&#* with that, just move it into the house!)

We recently moved to a house with a Bosch KGV28V01GB fridge freezer outside but it doesn't seem to be working. Its plugged in and the light comes on when the door is opened. The switch is set to ON but...

Good day,
Refrigerators are designed for indoor use only. The lowest temperature they will perform normally is 55 degrees.
As the temperature drops below that it degades to the point of not working at all.
P.S. If you move it inside, give it a 24 hour warm up period. The oil in the compressor will be too thick, and can even ruin itself trying.

Freezer doesn't freeze in winter?

Domestic refrigerators nowadays are designed not to operate at temperatures less than 45 degrees. First, if it's 45 degrees in the house, people probably are not living there. 2nd, 45 degrees keeps food refrigerated. 3, if people are not living in a space, then they don't need to keep frozen food.

This is a result of the changes in refrigerants we've been going through since 1992.
If you want an outdoor freezer, buy one, and make sure it's designed to be used in a non conditioned space.

Refrigerant required for

can't tell exactly, too many variables, your low side pressure should be about 50 - 60 lbs, ( this is merely a guide ) temperature affects this reading. a simple way to tell is add freon and watch you indoor coil if possible. when the entire coil is sweating you are full. if only partial sweat is visible add more, a little at a time, it takes several minutes for this to circulate.
