When I looked up this drive, I found an internal drive. Do you have it in an enclosure or one of the IDE/SATA - USB quick connection tools?

You do need power to the drive. If your enclosure or IDE/SATA-USB connection has an option for taking up 2 USB ports, you can get that power from the computer. It's usually better to use a power adapter even when you can use the 2 ports. (There's less demand on the laptop and it's less likely to burn out the USB ports.)

If this is an external version of that drive from the manufacturer, you still need the power adapter.

I hope this helps.

Hello, Yes it should have a power if you have a connection for that, but if the computer finds it, it should work with only usb but sometimes the USB power isnt enough. try to rightclick on your cdrom in windows and choose eject, what happends?

No it doesnt require any dc wire but check whether the green led light glows when pressing the button. if it glows take a safety pin and ***** it in below the drive tray there is a hole and u see that the tray comes out and then it works fine

CANNOT CONNECT TO PC

Some USB ports dont have enough power to power some drives. If this is a PC, try the ports at the back.

If that doesnt work, you can remove the drive from the case and purchase a usb to sata cable.

Iomega portable hard drives connect to your computer through a USB port. When you connect the Iomega hard drive to your computer, it should pop up as an icon in your My Computer folder. If you can't find the icon in your My Computer folder then you probably need to update the driver for the device. Updating this driver is not very hard and can be done automatically from the Windows Device Manager.

Plug your Iomega hard drive into one of your computer's USB port. Click the "Start" button and go to the "Run" field. Type "Devmgmt.msc" into the Run box and press the "Enter" key. Go down to the bottom of the device manager to the "Universal Serial Bus Controller." Click on the little + (plus) sign to expand it. Look for an entry with a yellow exclamation point and click on it. Click the "Install the software automatically (Recommended)" button and then click the "Next" button. Click the "Finish" button when the installation has finished. Go to the "My Computer" folder from your "Start" menu and locate the Iomega hard drive icon. Double click the icon to gain access to the external hard drive. Hope it helps.

Open the enclosure.
Separate the disk-drive from the USB-to-disk-drive adapter.
Connect the disk-drive as a 'slave' disk-drive in a desktop computer, and see if you can read the files.

If not, search online for a professional 'data recovery service' -- for a FEE, they can repair a disk-drive just long-enough to copy your files onto a new disk-drive.

PC not recognising Iomega Prestige 320gb usb portable hard drive. I've connected it all up, disconnected, reconnected, rebooted the computer, but the drive is just not recognised and does not show up in...

Does the drive show in Device Manager? Right click on 'My Computer' and select properties, the open device manager.. Navigate down to Disk Drives or Hard Drives, click on the plus sign and see if your drive is listed. If it is, then right click on the drive name and open properties for the drive. Click on the 'Volumes' tab and hit the 'Populate Button'. It may be the disk just needs initialising, then reformatting before you can use it. If it does need initializing, a wizard should appear to guide you through the process!
If this doesn't solve your problem, try using a different USB cable and/or USB ports on your computer, and ensure to unplug all other USB devices other than keyboard & mouse.

How to save items from sandisk to computer

When you plug in your sandisk USB drive into the computer, the computer would recognise it and open an "autoplay" dialogue. Click the option, "Open folder to view files".
If this doesn't happen even after a minute or so, then open "My computer" (winXP) or "Computer" (in start menu for vista) locate and open your USB drive.
Find the file you wish to copy to your computer
Select the file then click "edit" (near the top of the window) and click "Copy" Note that it says, Ctrl + C next to it, this is the hot key for copying and it applies to many applications such as Microsoft Word, to use it, you must simultaneously press both buttons, it's better if you hold down on ctrl and then the letter c.
Now open the location where you wish to copy the file to. For example in your documents folder.
In the documents folder, click edit, and then click paste (or Ctrl + V)

That should do the trick.
If you wish to select multiple files, keep your finger on the Ctrl button as you select the files you wish to copy and
If you wish to select all the files in that folder, Ctrl + A

Computer is not recognising the flash drive

Do other computers read the flash drive? If not, faulty drive. If yes, it may be recognized but you have Auto-play disabled. That's actually a good thing. Assuming this is a Windows computer that is at least XP or newer, open Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) BEFORE connecting the USB drive. Then left-click on the My Computer item. The right side of the screen will display all currently recognized drives. Plug in the USB drive and watch the righ side of the screen. I'll bet a new drive will appear within about 45 seconds. If so, just double click on the new drive and you'll see all your "stuff". If not, you may have a faulty USB port.
