Do you have to mix oil and fuel before putting in the fuel tank if so what oil and petrol do i need to use

Yes. You need to purchase two-cycle oil and mix it with petrol according to the chainsaw manufacturer instructions (this information is in the manual). It will specify the appropriate mix for your chainsaw.

Excessive oil from bar on 842 is there anoil flow screw

The oil pump is not adjustable, it is controled by the engine speed, it will keep oiling at idle due to the pump drive gear being fixed to the crank, not driven by the sprocket, so it is not good to leave the machine idling whilst moving timber around, the acid test is wheather the fuel runs out before the oil. this is quite correct

What is proper gas mixture?

fuel mix ratio is 50:1 using good quality 2 stroke oil

ie if you mix 20 mils of oil for every 1 litre of petrol that you mix
that is 50:1

or if you want a 5 litre mix put in 100 mils of oil into a clean petrol container 1st then put in 5 litres of fuel only and give good shake

cheers paul

I inherited a Rancher 50 20" chainsaw from my uncle only noone know the oil gas mixture.

using good quality 2 stroke oil use ratio 50:1

that is 20 mils of oil per 1 litre of petrol that you mix

put oil in can 1st then add petrol and give good shake

so if mixing 5 litres pour in 100 mils of 2 stroke oil and add 5 litres of fuel only

cheers hope it helps

Homelite chain saw --first time user--do you mix oil and gas--two compartments--is the first compartment for bar oil

In the compartment closest to the chainsaw bar, you need to fill this with chain and bar oil. Any good name brand will work fine.

In the other compartment you need to add a mix of petrol and oil in the ratio specified for your saw. If unsure, 25:1 petrol/oil ratio should be ok.

Need to know the correct levels of oils in a chainsaw

Most McCulloch saws use a 40:1 oil ratio if using McCulloch branded 2-stroke oil. They state 20:1 for other oils, but this is probably overkill as most name branded 2-stroke oils these days are pretty good. I would probably go for a 30:1 or 35:1 mix to err on the side of caution. This will not affect performance, it may just mean you need to change spark plugs a little earlier than usual, but the cylinders will at least be well lubricated.
