How do I replace the touchpad on a Dell C600? (The manual doesn't seem to tell this info.) TIA

I've been inside befoe, replacing several keyboards (I have 3 of the C600s) so I'm not afraid.

And I have directions for replacing the "palmrest" outside covering.

What I'm asking about is the hardware module that apparently mounts on the motherboard. (I assume that the touchpad itself is okay, and that the lack of response when I slide over it is due to the underlying module.)

And yes, if you can make that info available I'll use it with gratitude.

    TIA

Do you have the replacement touchpad, a small Phillips screwdriver, about 30 minutes and an adventurous spirit? I have replaced several of these. It is not difficult, but it is going finding all of the screws to remove and replace. Let me know and I'll try and put a guide together for you.

Thanks for getting back to me. As far as I know, the actual module that the touchpad connects to is part of the motherboard and not replaceable as a sub-assembly.

That said, what kind of issues is the touchpad giving you?
Have you tried un-installing it and re-installing the latest drivers?
The controls for the pad in the control panel are fairly good, too.
Have you updated the BIOS?

Hope this helps, and as before, please let me know.

Hello,

This part can be purchased on eBay or from any computer store that handles Dell parts. The replacement is fairly easy, requiring you to replace the top part of the keypad section. (Called a lower bezel.)

Good Luck

My touchpad will not work at all on my dell latitude laptop

Unless the Dell is fairly new, the touchpad cannot be turned off. If you have a special function key that shows a pic of a touchpad with a line through it, you use that key in conjunction with the Fn key. This combo turns the touchpad on and off.
If it doesn't work, then you may have a faulty touchpad. This means that either the touchpad data ribbon has come unattached or the actual circuits that control it are bad.

Touch pad is not working in my dell latituse 600

If the touchpad is not working, then ensure that the touchpad is not disabled in the BIOS, in control panel ensure that is is not disabled there either. If the touchpad is not disabled in BIOS or Control Panel, then a palmrest would be required to fix the issue. On a system of that age, I'd just use a wireless mouse till I was ready to replace the system

My computer keeps scrolling downward

I had a C600 do the same thing. It kept happening but I got some control over it by blowing around the edges of the touchpad with canned air and then cleaning the touchpad agressively with 99% isopropyl alcohol and a soft lint free cloth. If that makes a noticeable difference then we are on the right track. If the problem becomes unmanageable touchpad replacement may be in order. Let me know if this helps. If you need further solutions I will research further and post as data becomes available.
