Question about Philips 42PF9731D37 42 in. HD-Ready LCD Television
Fpe3000 has sound but no picture
Check the capacitors on the main powerboard. They are cylindrical and the tops look like they are a perforated X. If the X has popped up or broken than those capacitors need to be replaced. Also, compare your powerboard with one for sale on E-bay and note which capacitors have been changed (usually a different color; factory black; changed blue or orange)
I did this for my Akai 27" LCD TV and it works now. I changed 3 capacitors that were rated at 16v/1000uf to 24v/1000uf. Cudos actually belong to a Mr. Brown who I read about in a forum somewhere. Thanks, Mr. Brown...it cost me $5 to repair my TV rather than $135 for a refurbished powerboard.

This might be a possible solution instead of a complaint. First for those who has black screen and sound. Go to website: www.lcdparts.net, you may have to sign up. In here it will tell you that with this symptom you may very well have a defective inverter. It even tells you that you can change it yourself and doesn't require a very skilled individual to tackle it. The only problem is the backlight inverter module costs 179.00 bucks and thats the problem for me; just waiting to gather the cash so had not tried this fix myself. Good luck for those of you who are going to jump into this one.
ps. If this is a solution for you, please email me to let me know, it may or maynot save me some cash or headaches.
