No use whatsoever. DVD player is set up on AV1. Sound is fine no picture as a result of using menu setting to change visual output. Need to return to factory setting or to use the menu `blind` and no longer have instruction book. Nothing is wrong with connections or equipment just menu setting on the dvd player.

Pressing play and stop buttons at the same time brought everything back to life

Hi, have you tried unplugging it for about an hour this usually resets most of the settings but will need to be unplugged for an hour or more.

Have you also tried with the dvd player switched on pulling the leads out of the telly from the dvd then plug them back in whilst your telly is on and lso the dvd player is on.

If its just the case of your telly not picking up the signal from the dvd player then you need to do the following.
1. switch dvd player on at wall then switch it on as normal with the remote, not its on and if it was working normal you would se something on the telly but if you cant then do the following.

2. now we know the dvd player is on press the menu or setup button on the dvd player remote without a dvd disk in the player it might not work if their is one in the player.

3. double check all the leads in back of dvd and back of telly make sure they are all pushed in tight as any slight movement can cause you to lose the signal.

4. If you still have no picture from the dvd then you need to get the telly remote and find the source or av button on the remote if your in uk and using scart lead then it will be an av channel other parts of the world use diferent leads but it makes no differance either way.
So on telly remote find the source button or av button or input button if you have say two of these buttons then just use one at a time

If you have an av button press this you might need to press it 4 or 5 times depending on how many inputs your telly has if its an av button and your dvd is using scart lead then after pressing few times you should see the dvd menu screen on your telly.

If you have source button do the same untill you can see the menu screen and the same with the input button remember you might need to press the button on the telly remote upto 5 or 6 times depending on how many extra inputs the telly has.

Now as long as you switched the dvd player on at the wall then switched it on wait for say 10 sec then press the menu(setup) button on the dvd remote only once, and all the leads are checked they are fitted correct. As you have pressed the setup button or the menu button this makes sure the dvd is putting out a signal to the telly.

As the dvd is putting out the signal its just a case of using the telly remote to choose the correct input by using the av or source or input button on remote
Once you have the setup menu visible on the telly you can then change any settings you like.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

I accidently hit progressive button. Since the screen on my television is now black, I cannot see the menu to change to interlace. What do I do?

Hook your TV up to the yellow composite output, which is usually always interlaced on most DVD players. You should then be able to see the DVD output and can go in and change the component output back to interlaced. Then hook it up normally.
Alternately, you can take your DVD player to a progressive TV, either at a friend's house or even a home theater store to "test" it in progressive mode and then change it back to interlaced.

Reset Toshiba SD-5000 Dvd player to factory defaults

With most Toshibas, you could un-plug them and leave it for either 10minutes or 30minutes and it would reset. strange, I know. give it a try.

I also found this when working on a similar problem with your player, it may be relevant -you could try pressing the power button and another button..
sorry, I don't have one in front of me to test..

[[power off the player
hit the power button and immediately hold the HDMI select button
the 3 HD indicator lights will cycle and then pushing the HDMI select button will move through the resolutions.]]
