Dry joint problem on power socket

I too have a dry joint problem with the plug in the power socket on the laptop. i have ended up buying a new battery to see if that was the cause of the battery not charging. But I was wrong and i am now certain that the problem is caused by a dry joint on the motherboard. I have tried to gain access to the power socket but was not able to take off the back even though all screws have been removed. Can anyone suggest a site for its manual or a solution to remove the motherboard?

Hello,

First thing is to remove the top bezel. This is the piece of plastic between the keyboard and the display. Since you have removed all the bottom screws, you should be able to pop the bezel off by inserting the tip of a small flathead screwdriver under one of the plastic hinge covers. Check the back of the hinge covers for screws and remove any you see first. Once the bezel is off, remove the screws securing the keyboard and remove the keyboard. Be careful with the keyboard ribbon cable and the connector for it, they are fragile. Flip it over and remove any bottom panels. Disconnect the wireless antenna cables from the wireless card (usually black and white). Flip it over again. Snake the wireless antenna cables up through to the top and disconnect the other thicker cable (video and power) from the mainboard. Now you need to remove the display. After the display is off, remove the optical (dvd) drive. Remove any case screws you see from under where the keyboard was. You should be able to get it apart now. Be VERY mindful of connector wires/ribbons as you take it apart.

When soldering the joints (do em all on the power jack) be careful not to heat up the area too much as there are often very sensitive fuses close to the power jack. Do the joints quickly and do not use an excessive amount of solder. After you solder it, dry-fit the laptop back together and test it. If it's good, lay a small bead of hot glue around the base of the dc power jack to reinforce it.

The adapter stopped charging my laptop due to a faulty wire, I bought a new adapter and now as soon as I plug in it starts for a second and turns back off. The charging light blink and it doesn't

When you connect the power adapter into the laptop, does the power LED light up? If not then - The battery adapter or the adapter's power lead or the laptop's power socket could be faulty. Check power adapter's DC plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard. This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

The fault could be the adapter plug (a broken wire at the plug) that connects into the laptop or a faulty power socket on the laptop. In most cases it is the power socket on the laptop, it could be just a dry solder joint in the circuit board where the power socket is soldered on the motherboard or the power socket is faulty and therefore needs to be replaced.

The power adapter lead/plug that connects into the laptop's power socket maybe be faulty or the laptop's power socket could be faulty.

Put in a branbd new battery. Power adapter is OK.

Your motherboard does not need replacing provided the problem is the power socket on the motherboard.
If the power adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard.

Aspire laptop 3613wlmi user manual. My new battery will not charge. laptop will not come on at all. i have a new power pack too.

When you wriggle the plug in the power socket on the laptop and the charge LED flashes and in the right position it charges, this indicates that the power socket is faulty or there is a dry solder joint on the motherboard where this power socket is attached.
To get at the power socket will require dismantling the laptop completely.
If you are confident, can dismantle, reassemble a laptop and use a temperture controlled solder iron then try and fix it. If not a computer repair shop can do the repair, I suggest you get a quote first.

Battery stop charging with my hpnc2400 laptop can be intermittent

When you plug the adapter into the laptop's power socket and wriggle this plug does the charge LED light flash? If so the laptop has a faulty power socket or a power socket has dry solder joint on the motherboard.
This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get access to the power socket. I suggest you get a quote for this repair before you get it repaired.
