My TRU 885 base unit apparently burned out as the

My Uniden TRU885 base unit apparently burned out as the message on the display continually flashes “please wait”. I’ve tried several tied to reset the unit but none have been successful. Since I have 3 additional handsets tied to the base unit, I decided to purchase a refurbished TRU 885 base. I received the refurb unit (TRU885-2) but I cannot deregister the handset from the old base in order to re-register them to the new refurbished one. The message I receive when I try is “Out of Range”. Unfortunately, the base unit is not out of range, but not working. Is there a way to de-register handsets from a base that is not functional?

I successfully reset uniden TCX800 handset by reconnecting the battery while holding the '*' and '#' key, then press the right upper soft key near LCD.

SOURCE: Resetting the Handset

YOU might need to deregister the hand set first by holding down the red end (hang up key) and keep it down while holding the # key. If deregister wont work use base unavailable and yes, you are sure twice.

List the handset numbers of those working handsets
Using a WORKING handset follow these directions
Resetting Handsets
If you want to register the handset to a different base or
replace a handset with another one, you must first clear the
registration information from the base and the handset.
1. Press and hold [ ] and [#] for
at least 5 seconds, until the
SYSTEM RESET menu
appears.
2. Select the DEREGISTER HS
submenu. WHICH HANDSET?
appears in the display.
3. Move the cursor to select the handset ID to be de-registered
from the list, and then press the OK soft key. DEREGISTER HS
appears. CHOSE A NUMBER THAT IS NOT ONE OF YOUR WORKING HANDSETS
4. Move the cursor to select YES, and then press the OK soft key.
When ARE YOU SURE? appears, select YES. You will hear a
confirmation tone.
PUT THE HANDSET IN THE BASE CHARGER AND IT SHOULD REGISTER

I had this problem too. Hold "End" and "#"at the same time fora few seconds and it will deregister. Then just put it on the new base.

SOURCE: Reset base unit of Uniden TRU9485

Uniden TRU9485 (This didn’t work for me but this was the first instruction from Uniden Tech Support)

TO RESET THE BASE UNIT:
Unplug the base unit AC adapter.
Hold down for 15 seconds the DND, * and “menu” soft key (the middle silver soft key under the LCD) while plugging the base unit AC adapter back in.
All the settings should be reset.

Uniden TRU9485 (Worked for me)
ALTERNATE WAY TO RESET THE BASE UNIT:

Unplug the base unit AC adapter.
Hold down for 15 seconds the DELETE KEY (zero with a line through it) while plugging base unit AC adapter back in.
All the settings should be reset.

SOURCE: ADDING HANDSET SAYS OUT OF RANGE

A search of Uniden support only said to call 1-800-297-1023 with handset registration issues. The rep picked up quickly and walked me through the reset procedure. Here it is step-by-step:

1. Remove battery
2. Hold down the * and # buttons and reinsert battery. You should hear a long beep. If not retry. (This is a bit awkward but hold the handset upside down and it's workable)
3. Screen will be blank. Immediately press the right soft menu button.
4. Screen will report that EEPROM is clearing and then state EEPROM Clear Ok
5. Remove battery (yes again)
6. Reinsert battery (this time there's no need to hold down any buttons)
7. Handset will reboot with Welcome screen and then state that phone must be registered (this is the status a handset should be in from the factory)
8. Place handset on base and it will register as normal

After de-registering handset, handset displays [REGISTRATION FAILED; UNAVAILABLE] when trying to register handset.
This worked for my UNIDEN TRU-9480-2
SOLUTION:
1) Remove handset from base
2) Remove power cord from back of base
3) Press and hold the [find hs] button on base as you plug the power supply back in; the charge light should then be blinking.
4) Return handset to base and it should register
GOOD LUCK!! HOPE THIS HELPS!!

How do i check my messages when not at home from a differnt state or phon i have a uniden powermax5


The manual download page at Uniden is here. You'll need to select your model from the list. The model number is on the back or bottom of the base unit, and it will probably start with TRU. The manual will tell you what you need to do.

Uniden TRU 8885 - "Welcome, Please Wait" message on base


Try leaving the unit unplugged for a few minutes and power it up. There can be power surges during an outage that can damage the chips holding the software that loads.

SOLUTION:

1. First, remove the battery cover on your unregistered TCX905 and look under the battery to confirm that you indeed purchased a TCX905 because some Uniden handsets were packaged as 905's but were not.

2. Take the fully charged unregistered 905 to the base unit TRU9496.

3. On the TRU 9496 base unit press "Menu" then select "Registration" and press OK

4. You should get the message "press the # key on the remote handset".

5. Depress the "#" key on the unregistered 905 and it should register.

Second hand set doesn't work


The second hand set problem was resolved by placing it face down on the base unit. Apparently it needed to be reset for some quirky reason.

I found the solution in the manual, and although it didn't really address the problem, I thought it was worth a try. It worked.
