Test the leads that attach to your (hard drive from the motherboard) make sure they have dust free secure connections or replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE SATA and the ones that attach from your (motherboard to hard drive) if its a 40 pin flat ribbon IDE this will be the first to fail

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd and floppy drive have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs continue its cycle power and data to travel through every working device and have an end point so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error
hope this helps you

Unit failed to boot and observe the followng; - No start-up display - No CMOS boot-up display - Hard disk clicking sound and OS won't start

Turn the computer off.
Disconnect the AC power supply.
Remove the battery.
Remove the disk-drive.
Reconnect the AC power supply.
Turn the computer on.
Put any "data" disk into the CD-drive.
Does it display the CMOS boot-up display?
Can you hear the PC try to spin that "data" CD, i.e., trying to "boot" from it?
If it works "better" without the disk-drive attached, the disk-drive is the problem.

Computer will not come on

Check that no cable attached is a little loose, and make sure you press the power button hard enough, otherwise I would look at a failed power supply because as long as there is power you will get sounds or at least a green light even if the pc isnt working.

Hard disk problem

Better to check if your Hard Disk have a power. By knowing that it is working you have to go BIOS and see it there that it is recognize as Primary or Secondary Setup. Boot Failure have the options why it won't run from the hard drive. #1 Maybe its not detected in your PC or no power, check again inside your CPU if it is properly connect. #2 No windows or any system available. #3 If all of this are not then your Hard Drive are defective.
That's is my analysis on your problem. Hope this might help you to know what is that problem for.
Good luck!

no, it can handle an 80Gb. But before you do that reset first the firmware cause it helps your computer to prepare whatever plug and play devices the you may attach to it. or Upgrade your previous firmware to a higher version.
