I am going to give you some honest advice, troubleshooting a television in this format can only get you so far because I or the person helping is not there to see what is really happening. But a good rule of thumb is if the symptom changed after you replaced something, in your case for the worst, it is a good idea to re-check all the plugs and work you have done so far. I am a 20 year veteran of tv repair, and I follow these rules myself. If it gets worse it is something that was done wrong during the repair.

Are you sure when you replaced the lamp you seated it correctly, no really hapens all the time so dont feel bad. also another common error is the lanp door is not seated or closed and locked properly that is the most common problem that happens after a lamp is replaced, or the new lamp is bad never throw out your old one as somr dealers will give you what they call a core refund , they reuse the case around the old lamp. some can be worth as much as 50 to 60 bucks!!!

You are on the right track, if the lamp is not lighting bright enough it could do this exact thing, the three tries is standard on RCA products, called the 3 strikes and your out---set will try 3 times to make it on and then shut down.

The color wheel while possible usually makes a high pitched fan like sound and with lamp out you should be able to see it to know if missing parts of the wheel or shattered.

do you here a whining sound when you plug it up. when these units are first plug up there is a part called the color wheel that spins during boot process. if it doesnt reach speed then the lamp never fires. It is a motor and anything that moves evientally stops moving. it would have to be replace if you can get the part

RCA has discontinued the color wheel for your model and its on nationwide back order, so you cant buy the replacement. You can get your color wheel rebuilt at the following link and the rebuilt color wheels are fully guaranteed.

Buzzing

If it is a buzzing noise, it is the Ballast for the lamp.
If it is more of a grinding sound, it is the Color Wheel motor.
Does it go away when you turn off the tv? If so, does it stop abruptly or does the sound tend to get softer (winding down noise)
If the noise stops abruptly it is probably the Ballast.
If the noise takes several seconds and seems to get softer until it stops about 30 sec later then it is the color wheel motor.

They make two different color wheels for the Rca DLP are you positive you got the right one. As usually its a straight forward install no adjusting needed. Post the chassis number off the back of your set and I will try to help you out with it.

Assuming that the replacement lamp is good, you could be looking at a bad ballast (lamp power supply) or the switch on the lamp door itself could be causing the issue. The light engine also could cause an issue like that. I would have a technician look at it as this is beyond consumer repair.
