Question about HP Pavilion dv6000z Notebook

1 Answer

HP 530 laptop. Vista Home Basic OS. 18 months old.

Same problem as everyone on this thread. Last night, my HP 530 just stopped reading the DVD/ CD-ROM drive. The drive is an Optiarc DVD-RW AD-7530B. When I put in a CD or DVD, it is not read. I just get back the message "Insert a disc...". I put a disc in and there is no rotation of the CD or that revving sound you hear when you put a CD in a CD drive.

The motor went bad in the drive if its not even trying to spin the disc. The only option at this point is to get the drive replaced.

Did you starts the laptop, with the Windows CD inserted already?
let it start with the CD and it will discover there is already an operating system. It will ask to reinstall or to repair the errors. Choose the last option, so you don't loose your data.

How can i format my vista home basic from dell laptop and reinstall it from cd

if you have a boot cd for vista home then put the disc in drive - go to boot screen and change the boot order with cd/dvd-rom priority on top and go for the installation where you can format your system and install a fresh copy of Vista home. make sure you have a bootable disc of vista home

Installateion new windows

You must have the windows OS CD you want to install. Put the CD on the CD-ROM drive of your system and restart your system. When the system boots it will prompt you to press any key to boot from CD-ROM, press any key (you must be fast to observe this as it last for few send and you BIOS must have the DC-ROM as the first boot drive)

I am trying to install windows service pack 1. I keep getting an error code: 0x00F0826. Can you tell me what this means and how to fix it? I am running windows vista basic. 32-bit. Thanks.

if there error appeared while windows copying files then disc OS or the DVD ROM might be faulty. Try to test first the ODD if it is faulty. Use the drivers and utilities cd from dell to test the DVD ROM. If DVD ROM reads fine the drivers disc then try the OS disc to a different computer if it can load vista files. if not the OS disc has the problem. If no issues with OS disc and DVD Rom then it might be the HDD.

I got a new desktop Dell (runs on Vista) to replace my old Dell laptop (runs on Windows XP). I inserted the software CD for my HP Office Jet K80 All in One printer and it literally exploded loudly inside...

Vista has identified your printer. It loads up its default printer driver (stored in vista OS) in your new computer. This usually have the basic features only. You need to run again the CD to install or enable the added features of your said printer. If you have lost the CD you can do an alternate option by downloading the software on this link. ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/united-states/pse/hppse1.12.0.46enu.exe

For the the CD that was crumbled inside your cd-rom. You can try to pull out the CD from the Tower casing and try yo maually open the CD rom unit itself. Or may i suggest that you can buy a new one. (CD/DVD roms are cheaper now a days)

The causes of CD crashing inside your CD rom;

1. wrong placement of CD/DVD disc
2. Hardware failure of the CD/DVD roms

HP laptop dvd player can read DVD but not CD

The lens is causing the problem. Simplifying a bit, on a DVD unit, the same lens must "focus" on a laser beam reflected by the disk. CD and DVD reflect laser beams on different frequencies.
A scratched or dirty lens may be able to read DVD and not CDs.

Try first cleaning the lens with a CD cleaner product. you can also try cleaning the lens with isopropyl alcohol and cotton stub, be aware that there is risk to make situation worse using this technique. If you put too much force on lens , the optical drive may not work at all afterward.

If that does not work, rather than replacing the lens, on a laptop you replace the optical drive alltoghether.

Vista & xp service pack2 sinultaneously.

Not both. If you have the Vista recovery, go ahead and load it first, then load the XP by creating a new partition on your harddrive. Now you have a dual boot machine, and will need the XP device drivers. Not sure if you have them or not, so here is a place to get them.
