Question about Computers & Internet

EMachine W3107 will not boot, no display.

I was given an eMachine W3107 recently because the owner could not get it to boot at all. I understand that eMachine's are horrible computers yet I would like to get this one up and running in order to use it for small tasks.

Here's the issue. When the computer is turned on, I get both fans going and one orange, short light will blink on the outside case under the power button. The monitor remains blank at all times except to tell me there is no signal from the computer to the monitor.

Here's what I've done. I have used 3 different monitors, all with the same result. I also put the cpu in a different computer and it booted up fine. In addition, I tried checking the RAM slots, dusted them and checked them for obvious defects, then placed them right back where they were. I checked each capacitator and none of them are swollen or corroded.

In summary, the monitor works, the cpu works, and the motherboard isn't showing obvious signs that it has malfunctioned, so far that I know. I have very little experience with computer hardware and I hope that I am missing something silly.

By the way, there are no beeps when I turn the computer on.

I realize that I'm working on an older, bottom line computer. The most I am will to do with this machine is to replace the original mobo with an alternative mobo NOT from eMachines. I have an original copy of Windows XP Home that I can use in order to get around that eMachine issue where the new mobo is detected as if it's a new computer and doesn't boot.

If anyone can help me out, please do. If you need more information, let me know.

You know what, now that you said it, the previous owner's son mentioned that it could be the onboard GC. I'll give that a shot. I'll have to look over my spare parts to see if I have a GC. I'll let ya know how it goes.

Have you tried a different Graphics Card, looks to me like the onboard graphics card is at fault, there should be an AGP slot or PCI slot that you can plug a new Graphics card into then you should be fine...

Emachine w3107 reboots when windows xp loads

These kinds of issues are most often related to driver conflicts. First thing you need to do is reboot your PC while holding F8, until you receive the menu about booting in to Safe Mode. Try booting in to Safe Mode.

If you can get in to Safe Mode, disable any new devices you have recently installed, reboot again, this time letting it try to boot all the way to Windows.

If it reboots again, go back in to Safe Mode and disable/uninstall something else.

Basically, it is a process of elimination. Safe Mode loads a very minimal set of system drivers, so if you can boot in to Safe Mode but not in to full Windows, the problem is one (or more...) of the drivers that load in Windows but don't load in Safe Mode.
