Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

2 Answers

Hi, Our company has 5 x ML5520 dot matrix printers for printing home Oil order tickets via the SAGE programme. One of our sites prints fine to a local ML5520, but using the same programme to print to a remote (20miles away) ML5520 works for the first ticket, but then the rest get totally misaligned. We have to reset after each ticket has printed, which is difficult when you have a 100 a day to do. Any idea of the problem.

The printer is link by a networked printserver.

yes, it is the printer that is the issue. I presume the first thing would be to make sure it's at default settings. And then tell it to ignore the I-Prime signal, but don''t know how to do it as the manual is unclear.

    Hi,

Windows XP, printing from SAGE. The Printer is directly attached to the Internet router. I have made sure that the settings for page lenghth are correct, but it still prints too high up on the second ticket, and just rides up and up thereafter on each ticket printed. The only remedy is to tear off each ticket and reset again. This means can only print one ticket at a time.

It is still in warranty and I presume that for some reason the printer is not taking in the lenght settings and doing whatever it wants. I have also checked that it has saved the correct setting as well. Swapping over the printer with another one works OK, so I presume it's a faulty printer.

Well, I really solved it myself. And the first two guys did not really help at all. The last person Tim (micromatikal) seemed to know what he was talking about.

What operating system(s) are you running on these machines? How are you printing to it remotely, do you have a VPN set up? I've seen this problem happen many times with dot matrix printers, it's definitely a nightmare.

Let me know a little more about your setup here.

Thanks
Tim

Ah yes, you have confirmed it then. If you can replace the printer with another one and the new one works perfectly, then the issue is definitely confined to the old printer. Since it's under warranty send that ****** back! If you need Oki Data's number it is : 1-800-OKI-DATA

Let me know what you find!

    Thanks
    Tim

Okidata Dot Matrix Printers
So, the one thing that no one ever pointed out is that Okidata printer head jewels get lubricated VIA the ribbon. You MUST use at least 50 to 70% Brand name original cartridges, or suffer premature print head wear.

Once the printed character becomes blurry, get a REMANUFACTURED head, with the oiling wick. This lets you use all the cheap ribbons, by lubricating the jewels directly.

When you are all finished, enter the menu of the printer and play with REGISTRATION. Often you can make a crisper print by tweaking this setting.

It sounds like a software glitch. I would begin looking for new programs, and possibly a new system for the tickets entirely.

Printing quality is very poor

The print quality of dat matrix printers depends upon the printer ribbon. If the ribbon is old or worn out then the print will be very light. In this case replace the ribbon.
Dot matrix printers are very old technology and I suggest you get a Inkjet printer or a laser printer.
Dot matrix printers cannot match the print quality of Inkjet and laser printers.

Difference between dot matrix printer and laser printer

1. Dot matrix as the name suggests prints in small dots. The print out u get in railway tickets. 2. Laser printers are very speedy and have clear and sharp printing. There is no comparison b/w a laser printer and dot matrix. If dot matrix is 1st GEnaration than laser is atleast 10 generations ahead
