Question about RCA Scenium HD65W20 65" Rear Projection Television

Won't turn on - except for one cooling fan

My 65" Scenium was purchased for about $3000 in 2002 and worked great for a while. But, within 2 years it blew a capacitor (thank God it was still under warranty). Then in OCT of 2007 it's picture froze on the screen one night. No response from the remote control or switches on front control panel. Had to unplug it, but then it wouldn't turn on at all (except I could hear 1 of the cooling fans power up. I let it sit for a couple days still plugged in. Then for some reason I decided to press the power on button and it came on! Worked fine for 2 weeks. Then it died again. It has not recovered this time and it's been a month. Still have one fan that turns on. Two different repair men have looked at it and say it needs to checked out at their shop with more sophisticated equipment. I have been told that the DirectTV box is a big problem with these sets and you may not be able to acquire the part(s) to fix it, or the part costs around $800. Not worth it. Can't believe an expensive set like this only lasts 5 years. RCA / Thomson is not a brand I will be doing business with in the future.

If you changed all 3 CRT's at the same time you are in for alot of alignment. If all 3 need to be replaced then 2 should be replaced then aligned to the remaing original then replace the last after all alignment is done. You will probably need some kind of template provided by RCA to do alignment especially if the set has auto convergence. Good luck....

Check and make sure your fans are working and there is sufficiant cooling to the back of the set. Sounds like it is overheating and going into protection mode.

No picture, siren type noise as restarting

My Toshiba dlp 62hm116 was used for 3 months then stored for 2 years, I turned it on yesterday and it makes a loud grinding noise which I think is probably from the exhaust fan area and the picture is black except white at both vertical sides. It worked fine the last time I used it 2 years ago. Any ideas?

Cooling fan no longer working on tv

Chances are good that it will work. The only catch is that one of the wires are monitored by the protect circuit. If the wiring is different it may not work. I would try it though. Nothing bad should happen. Make sure that if it does work that the fan is blowing in the correct direction.
Hope this helps,

Mitsubishi WD-62827---PICTURE TURNS GREEN

I had the same problem. I deducted that if my TV worked fine for an hour or so and then the colors became bad (green, people's faces purple...), it must be a overheating problem. Simple logic, right? So, I picked up a few tools and a small vaccum and went to work.
I went first for the main source of heat: The lamp. Just a few screws, and I removed it. The lamp cage has a fine screen to prevent the dust to cover the lamp. Mine was covered with dust! And the fan behind the lamp was also covered with dust! Bingo!!! That's my problem! I cleaned everything and vaccumed all the air vents on the the back of the TV. I put the lamp back and checked that the fan was working. The TV works like new since!
Before you are out of a TV for days and spend an arm and a leg for a "Technician" to fix it (replacing expensive parts that didn't need to be replaced in the first place), try what I described above first. It's very simple and it takes only 15 minutes.
Since my TV is 2 1/2 years old, I purchased a replacement lamp. I know that one of these days it will burn out. I'll be ready and my TV will be working again in 15 minutes!
Since my problem was solved, I didn't go to the next step. There must be one or two other cooling fans inside the TV, but they must be working...
Good luck,
