Length of Recording Time...

I have four (4) EDSR 1600's. I have not touched the original settings since the installation. All 16 cameras are recording on each machine, but I can only search back about 48 hours. I would like to record only when there is movement so I do not waste the space. I believe this might be one of the problems as to why I do not have 30-60 days (or more) of recorded history.
1. I may need some help to make the change to movement-only record.
2. Could there be another reason why I cannot go back further than 36-48 hours?
